www.theargus.co.uk/sport/argusgeneralsportsnews/display.var.2234921.0.pook_defiant_as_worthing_dream_ends.phpQuote from the Argus article: Worthing joint-manager Alan Pook has targeted automatic promotion next season after suffering heartache in the Ryman division one south play-offs... ..."I have told them that next year I don't want to be in the play-offs, I want to win it outright and I think with the progress we have made this season we will be capable of doing it." Deja vu? At least he hasn't put a percentage on our chances this time, but I'm 87.3% sure he could be 72% correct.

Unlucky Rebels but now we can reflect on what has been an exciting season if not sucessful in the end. Great atmosphere last night, and an enjoyable big occassion despite us not winning. The players at the end were brilliant and they have worked hard all season and deserved a shot at the play-offs.
Tootings ground was quite good although the pitch was terrible and they adapted better to it early on.
In the game we unfortunately conceded a sloppy early goal which is never good in a big match because it will always be hard to come back into it. When we went two down it seemed we had a mountain to climb although we did look promising going forward. Despite this we had no real shots on goal all first half and Tooting still looked threatening. We also had to play the referee who was not only being very fussy and giving free-kicks constantly, but when Tooting committed some very dangerous tackles, they were not dealt with particulary well.
As Worthing improved in the second half, Andy Alexander was sent-off after Karly Akehurst was kicked in the face. Alexander squared up to the offender and picked up his second yellow card, yet nothing was given the other way. We did come close however and Jamie Brotherton hit the bar as we tried to pull one back.
Nko Ekoku came on and accidently shouldered one of their players in the face to the delight of our fans (T&M players had been going down easily all night. In the end though, it wasn't to be but great scenes at the end saw all of our travelling support behind the goal (which was brilliant all night) chanting until well after T&Ms fans and players had left the pitch. At the end our players came over to shake hands and they all seemed determined to win promotion next year.
Finally just to say Ben Johnson was absolutely gutted that he couldn't play last night but says his injury isn't too bad and he will be back next season with hopefully the majority of our squad.
Bring on next season!!!!

Not being picky but it was Ben who got kicked in the face by their number 5. It was also No 5 who Nko Ekoku clattered near the end. Whilst I wouldn't normally condone such things kinda hope it was retribution for his digusting play acting to get Andy A sent off.
Whilst Andy did confront him after he kicked Ben he never touched his face but the bloke went down like he'd been punched. And he knew exactly what he was doing cos he gave the Worthing fans on the sideline a grin after the red card had been produced which i think is what led to half the Worthing bench and staff trying to have a word with him.
Shame really cos other than that thought they probably deserved it and would have won it anyway without needing to use such tactics.

As I don't go to non-Sussex away matches these days(I consider myself a bit of a jinx), I am grateful to everyone for the reports and views on the match.
Seems as though it was a combination of lousy pitch, poor reffing and simulation needed to overcome Rebels silky skills. Maybe T & M want to keep their pitch flooded as they're the only ones that can handle it.
Still, well done lads, you got further than would have seemed possible a couple of months ago.
(Anybody see the Bloor piece in Non League Today on Sunday: 'we'd have been up there challenging Dover if Richard Hudson hadn't been injured'. Now, as much as I like Hudson, . . .)

Well done Rebels!
Bloody proud of a fantastic, emotional night last night.
Thought we were outplayed first half as Tooting really 'did a job' on us. They deserved to be in the lead, but the second half was a sea of red. Tooting had a tough back 4 though that couldn't be broken down and it wasn't to be.
A proud night to be a Worthing fan and we came out of it with a hell of a lot of credit, it'll bring us together and next season we REALLY will be a force to be reckoned with, for all 42 games. Add Matty Phelan and Richard Hudson to what we had for the last 15 games and that really is a frightening team!

Well i'm not going to come on here and start goading but i will say that tooting were the better team in the first half and worthing the second half and the 2-0 scorline somewhat flattered us but deserved. To answer a question from a previous post it was both managers decision to play the match last night even though i did see a baby swan on the pitch at around 6:45 anyways good luck next season and hopefully see you not as as soon as next season

By the way, I thought your No 7 (wee bald guy) was absolutely fantastic last night - he seemed to be everywhere and I was surprised he didn't get MOTM.

The pitch last night was a Joke. If you look at the games that have been called of this year then this one would have been called off at 9am before the worst of the rain came down. Ryman need to look at this situation and allow the chance of games to be replayed or at least give us a chance to have a kick around in Farmer Jone's Pig Farm first so the team could get used to playing in those conditions!! Rant about the pitch over. The pitch was bad for both teams. T&M adapted better and more quickly to the conditions and that was that. Floodlights half-failing, lighting up our goal like a Christmas tree for the opposition strikers to take pot shots at whilst allowing them to defend a murky gloomy blur at the other end, like at Dull Itch a few years back, well that's a different story altogether... (and no, I'm not bitter!)

The Rebel's tactics were a bit strange as well, with Pullers and Jamie B swopping places so that Pullers was up front and Jamie B playing wide. Eventually Hinge & Bracket saw the light and reverted them to their usual positions, but then gave up a few minutes later and took off poor old Pullers. (If ever a player was given the runaround by his management this year then it's been Pullers, who can blame him if he decides to go this summer) Sadly this has been one of the consistent features of the whole season - it seriously need to change if we are to gain automatic promotion next season.
