Does anyone take this cup serious what a two Bob cup let's hope no more injuries tonight. And no injuries in my pocket?? Hinch takes it seriously, he's on record stating he's going for every competition. Furthermore having witnessed the effort the lads put in against Tonbridge in the last round, they do too. Each to their own but that's good enough for me. I wouldn't wish to 'injure' the club's pocket by keeping hold of my 'two Bob' No-one would argue it is anywhere up there with the FA Cup or the FA Trophy. However as we now find ourselves out of both those competition the VT is the best we have left, with no disrespect to the SSC. No more injuries though, I agree wholeheartedly there.

Well, that was all shades of awful. Good call Heljag, lost 1-3 and in truth the score could've been a whole lot worse.
Three defeats in a row now and on that performance a slump could well turn into a slide.

The only team in living memory to take this tin pot cup seriously were Billericay. Spending millions in the process to win such a prestigious trophy 2 years running and celebrating it as though it was the World Cup.
Heljag, any injuries to your pockets would be best described as self-inflicted. It seems that I was not alone in voting with my feet in refusing to pay full whack to watch a pointless match judging by the paltry attendance tonight. Got my football fix elsewhere watching a competitive match for half the price that ended up being worth every penny.
I personally would disagree that this competition is more prestigious than the County Cup. There are bigger and better teams in the County Cup than this and the County Cup Final is played in a proper stadium rather than some random, neutral Isthmian standard venue.

Much more worrying than going out of the prestigious Velocity Trophy, and missing out on all the glamour and glory that goes with it, was the way we played having put out a strong team. Not seen us play like that since the Elphick Empire crumbled at the start of last season. Adam has some work to do now before this mini slump develops into something more serious. Merstham were at us from the off, in our faces and wfecking our passing game, to which we had no plan b and no answer other than to hoof the ball upfield in the hope that it found a red shirt. Delayed KO, a shame it kicked off at all really!

Hinch was very deflated in the post match interview (now on the match centre link) but he says the same Jules, Merstham were everywhere.
Often when a team performs badly observers don't always credit the opposition, but they did a masterclass on how to nullify our system last night. We were pressed everywhere and by just simply keeping their wingers marking our defenders at goal kicks meant our usual sideways progress had no outlet.
We need a plan B because if a recording of that gets out, they'll all be doing it, and we offered not the slightest clue what to do in response.
An enlightening game that, but not in a good way.

Might've been minded to start a new thread myself but as a keen recycler well done for searching out last seasons VT thread and putting it in the blue bin WW pointed out on the SSC thread that we're a bit light on fixtures in December so maybe it can be slotted in there somewhere.

An interesting start time, presumably to assist Cray and their fans with easier return travel on the last Saturday before Christmas.

Would be more sensible to bring the kick off forward to 1230 and give the Seagulls fans amongst our support the chance to race across to the Amex for Brighton v Sheffield United.
