After a period in September where four out of five games were cup games we've again got used to league matters taking priority. Well tomorrow we can pause our league campaign and again enjoy a good old cup game, our entry into the FA Trophy at the first qualifying round. In a turn up for the books, and rarer than the appearance of Bognor's pier in the 'Pier of the Year' shortlist, we got a home draw!!
As this is the opening post for 'The Buildbase FA Trophy' to give it it's correctly endorsed name (and the last time i'll use it!) here are a couple of links to competition specific general information from the FA site...

So, on to the first game and we welcome Walton Casuals to Woodside Road. We last met the Stags in the 2015/16 season where despite not beating them that season (drew 2-2 and lost 2-1) we were promoted via the play-offs and they finished 16th. They remained in the Isthmian 1st division South for a further two seasons before gaining promotion to the Southern Premier Division during the league restructuring that occurred at the beginning of last season. They are therefore at our equivalent level but in the Southern League, as such comparative stats are valid.
They haven't had the best of starts to their season currently sitting in 18th place with 13 points from 13 games. We are 5th in our league with 23 points from 12. On paper therefore, and as we know games are not played on paper, playing Walton Casuals at home is the equivalent of playing the 19th side in our league who are Brightlingsea Regent....and that seemed to go pretty well last weekend

Form wise the Stags are 16th on the last six combined home and away games with 7 points from the last possible 18, over the same period in our league we are the 2nd best team in the league with 13 points. Away from home over the last six away games they are 12th with two wins in the middle of four defeats. At home over the same period we are the 5th best side at home with three wins, two draws and a defeat.
Last out for Stags was on Tuesday when they lost 2-0 at Hendon, last weekend they were at home to Taunton but lost 5-1.

So where are we at from the Carshalton game squad wise? If my fragile grip on the suspension rules is right then Joel won't be suspended for this game but from Tuesday onwards (so Potters Bar or the reverse fixture if this game is drawn if competition specific rules don't apply).
Injury wise nothing new was obviously apparent at 90 minutes against Carshalton. Reece, Marvin and Ollie were absent for that game so it remains to be seen how injured they were, 'knocks' was the word Hinch used. All three were spotted in the main stand and as no Stannah stair lift was needed to get them up there hope springs eternal that their absence was precautionary and they can come back into contention tomorrow.
The weather can't seem to make it's mind up what it's doing at the moment so prepare for anything and everything. We won't have our Albion season ticket holder contingent for this one and it is game three of the week so we could be forgiven for anticipating a low turnout. If you are 'umming and aahhing' though just remember the entertainment served up the last two games, they've both been a very good watch.
Come on you Rebels!
