After the long wait for a home draw we are now getting rather accustomed to being drawn out the hat first. AFC Sudbury are the next visitors to Woodside Road on Saturday for the FA Trophy second qualifying round.
There's £3,000 for the winners and of course progression to the third qualifying round where the National League sides enter the competition. Were we to grab a place in the next round our home game with Corinthian Casuals on the 23rd of November would be postponed, just as the now re-arranged Enfield game was for this one.
We'll welcome 'The Suds' after their long trip trip from Suffolk for their first trip since the end of the 2016/17, a game that ended 0-0. Hopefully this encounter won't go the same way and we can produce a positive result to save ourselves a long midweek trip for a replay.
We're here of course thanks to Lloyd's late winner against Walton Casuals in the 1st qualifying round. At the same stage our opponents won through thanks a 2-0 home win against Harrow Borough. This will be their third game as in the Preliminary round they won 4-1 away to VCD Athletic.
It is a cup game so league stats can often count for little but for a rough comparison Sudbury are currently 13th in one of the feeder leagues to the Premier division, the Isthmian North Division. They have 12 points from a possible 30.

Form wise we are quietly on a bit of a roll, whilst many have been draws the win at Haywards Heath takes us to seven games unbeaten. The Suds are themselves unbeaten in three. Last up they secured a last minute winner in a 2-1 win over Canvey Island, before that the aforementioned Harrow Borough Trophy win and then it took a penalty shoot out to secure their Velocity tie with Maldon & Tiptree.
The side that played Wednesdays SSCC tie is probably not that representative of what we can expect on Saturday. One big plus though was Ollie Pearce getting some minutes (and a goal) under his belt on his return from injury. Hopefully he will play some part.
The weather is going to be foul by the looks of things so dress dry.
Come on you Rebels!
PS - I know it's not for or about one of our fixtures but if you fancy more of a flavour of what 'the suds' are all about here's a link to their e-programme for last weeks game against Canvey Island - Link
