Funny isn't it. I thought we looked very good even in the first half, but again without that cutting edge. Chippenham are no mugs, they play a very similar game to ours in wanting to play from the back and were slick with their passing game. They made the game a tactical joy to watch. The sucker punch right on the stroke of half time was a bitter pill to swallow, but credit where credit is due as we gave seen many many times before, going a goal down with 45 still to play, the game is certainly not done. Our response in the 2nd half was instant and from then on to me there looked like only one winner (with a couple of customary scary moments thrown in). I thought Rocco had a really good game, with a couple of tremendous saves and without appearing to strum the same guitar, I also thought that Greg had a very good game. Maybe, if he didn't come with this reputation of being a top goalscorer (which he really hasn't been since his days as a youth player at Burgess Hill) then people would look at what else he brings to our style of play. Anyway, an enjoyable game between two good footballing sides and another 3 points on board.

Good point about a similar style to us. They played around the back but with one big difference... if it went back to the keeper he just hoofed it up and we usually won back posession. Although sometimes nervey, a lot of our attacks do start there! Just a little thought there for the fans who want a more direct game! 😉

All very nicey nicey in the first half with some decent passing moves without much threat on goal. Much better second half with Ollie being the hero. I too thought Chippenham would park the bus after their goal but they played some decent football and shots which Rocco did well to save. Greg Leur had a better game and seemed more comfortable on the wing .Good clean game with good officials. Well done Rebels.

Although sometimes nervey, a lot of our attacks do start there! Just a little thought there for the fans who want a more direct game! 😉 Fair point, a drawback but a drawback that would be easily remedied with a 'sticky' player... y'know a guy to whom the ball sticks and who can recycle it into second phase possession much further up the pitch. The best example lately for us was Cal Kealy, a different type of player that has never even remotely been replaced as a more 'direct' option. And that's just it, an option, something different. "Direct" can also be simply attitudinal too though. For example I'd say were 'direct' in the second half today. It was chalk and cheese to the relative lack of impetus in the first half, the ball moved forward quicker and we seemed to have adopted a shoot on sight policy with more chances on goal in the first five minutes 2nd half than the whole of the first half. The old football cliche of 'you have to buy a ticket to win the prize' is so true and we looked like a side trying to win a football match in the final 45 minutes. For me the desire for a 'direct' option is not a desire for the ball to be lumped aimlessly upfield, you're right, it comes straight back. Its more of a mindset thing, go forwards quickly, move quickly, pass quickly, go long if its on but up to strong forward who's reliable with his back to goal. Its far more nuanced than the binary 'tippy tippy v hoofball and nothing in between' thing it seems to have morphed into. More of the same of the great team mindset change and effort 2nd half today and its a discussion we don't need to have. Has to be observed though that it gets easier once you're ahead, the space opens up as the opposition has to push forward. Its in our interest therefore to go at it like that from minute 1 not minute 46, get ahead and stay ahead. I feel we start far too conservatively, we could make it much easier on ourselves if we were braver earlier, especially at home.

The first 15 minutes we set up to attack up the right but the sun was low and players were saying they couldn't see any forward runs easily (and from where I was neither could i). Maybe not the ideal flank to attack at this time of year when shooting to the elmo end? Better to have the oppo dealing with that surely? Although having the Awayboys under the roof in the second half did bring the noise.
How long until the lid goes on the elmo end?

Indeed. I was too busy chatting to notice the coin toss. I assumed we lost it because surely no-one in their right mind would choose to attack into that sun.
Given we've got lots of 3pm home games all this month, kicking East first will surely be a no brainer.
Talking of those games, our crowd today was our lowest Saturday crowd of the season so far. Eastbourne will obviously be fine on Boxing Day but you'd hope after that second half showing we could build those numbers up for St Albans and Maidstone on the next two Saturdays.

A good second half with neat passing, and a great hat trick by Ollie, a good 3 points collected. The ref had a better game than when we played Truro, then he gave out 2 reds 8 yellows, maybe someone had a word with him.

I wasn't there today (was on the Worthing to Bristol steam express) but it sounds like a much needed good performance and 3 pts to boot.
Well done Rebels!
Hopefully we can go into the Christmas break with a strong run of results.

A bit late to the party but have been busy. One thing I noticed yesterday is that was one of the few times we played a team that were not taller across the board. First half was a bit boring g in my opinion. But second half made up for that. Great hat trick for Ollie. And credit where is it due I thought Rocco played well. Some very good saves. Watching the highlights it was Joel who headed the balll of the line before the scored. Good to see Glen Rea back as well. And it was good to see players not afraid to take a shot a goal. If we keep playing like the second half the points and wins will come.

A typical Worthing 23/24 game. The first half's 4222 only served to provide something the second half's 4231 was infinitely better than. Still so many unanswered questions but credit to the coaching staff who can effect change to win matches.

Still so many unanswered questions but credit to the coaching staff who can effect change to win matches. It's a learning curve , I think the key thing is to establish ourselves at this level. If it means we get results by playing not consistently then so be it I don't mind how we play along as we keep getting points on the board.

A bit of praise for Cashman. He was the main engine of positivity in the first half, and got the first two assists of Pearce's goals in the second half

From the Chippenham forum
"In the end cannot complain with the result, Worthing are excellent, especially once we went behind and we had to chase them.
First half seemed cagey, we set up brilliantly and got the goal. I’m certain Worthings style would cause a stir on here!! Second half, they changed (couldn’t tell you how) and we didn’t. Really disappointing. First two goals from our perspective were poor.
Think season shows where we are at - mid table side but if we can get 4/5 missing players back in then a late play off charge could be on. Impressive set up at Worthing - good afternoon out."

Hi all, the snow has cleared from here so I'm good to go for tomorrow but I'm a bit worried about a late call off.
Is anyone else travelling and if so could they text or ring me (I'll send a PM with my number) if the game is postponed??
Many thanks in advance
Edit, posted in wrong thread
