This may seem counter intuitive given I'm not convinced that giving this job, and crucially at this time, to a rookie manager is perhaps the best course of action. But there is a case, if he is indeed at the forefront of the board's thinking, for confirming Aarran as the new permanent manager this week. Making the appointment ahead of the play-offs, and more importantly ahead of the summer, kills dead the uncertainty hanging over Woodside Road. It could have a galvanising effect, a lift, a clarity of purpose, never a bad thing ahead of big games. Stopping this elongated limbo period though, during which players will be getting offers from other clubs, may just convince one or two of the players looking at pastures new to consider staying. Even though I've got significant reservations about it, and also its assumed that by confirming his desire to be considered he's 100% committed to the job (ie giving up his other jobs) I can see some sense in it. Of course only the board know what his competition is, only the board know if potential experienced NL managers are holding fire to see what level we'll be at, only the board know if there's someone they've already decided on but can't go public on it as he's still currently in employment. But if there isn't a strong 'iron in the fire' we don't know about then being decicive this week might not be the worst idea. Many interim to permanent appointments immediately go the other way! Yes agreed, it doesn't all ways bode well. I'm not saying Arran couldn't do the job but it's a big change from being a tempory appointment to a perment one. I will be behind the new gaffer whoever it is.

For me, it’s fairly simple. If we don’t go up, give Arran the job. If we do get promoted, we need someone more experienced, especially someone who can strengthen the defence.

And that's broadly where I am now too... with the caveat that in so doing we must collectively accept the 'year on year progress' thing will probably end as he cuts his teeth. That's fine though it'd be a step back to step forwards. I don't mean relegation by that either, we're far too good for that just a solid first season of transition.

I imagine the club are at an advanced stage and have have whittled down the potential candidates after interviews.
I reckon they have a good idea who it will be based on what we require.

Yes I completely agree with you. This is how I see it. Arran has huge managerial potential and if we don't go up there will be no harm giving him the crack of the whip.

A bit left field maybe but I note that Scott Harris has been sacked by Walton & Hersham. Looks a bit odd as he has achieved 3 promotions in 3 years and they are currently 7th in Southern Prem South (step 3) This post is another one of mine that has aged well Scott Harris takes over at Kingstonian following their relegation to step 4

It right and proper that we've parked this issue until after Monday. But this achievement has to be registered somewhere... Twitter/X

Anyone who can persuade Olie Pearce to stay at the club whatever league we are in . (Personal preference would to be stay in the south ) Can see a lot of the present squad gone if we do go up . More unlikely if we dont make the (massive leap) 😷😷😷

I wonder what the odds will be the club announcing the new manager not long after the playoff final?
Surely planning for new season starts pretty much after the last one has ended?

If we got promoted, what would we think about someone like Luke Garrard? If that hasn’t already been suggested.

If we got promoted, what would we think about someone like Luke Garrard? If that hasn’t already been suggested. To answer the direct question, he was suggested, but there was also a rumour he would be going to Wealdstone. More generally, in my head anyway I've parked the manager situation until Tuesday. There are two massive uncertainties hanging over the club while everyone else is busy planning next season... what league we're in and who is in charge. For me, deal with one at a time, and the hurdle coming up is the NL or NLS one. Bad juju comes from thinking too much about the fence beyond rather than the one immediately in front of you.

Don’t ask me why but I have the feeling the manager situation has been already decided. Being honest I have nothing concrete or rumours just have this feeling.

And that would not surprise me at all either.
It'll be hard for some to reconcile this statement given the calamitous events of the last 36 hours, but the board are on the ball, ahead of the curve.
You need only cite the North Stand plans and preparations. All done on the QT in the background and only discovered by accident thanks to an eagle-eyed Rebel Rebel happening to scour local planning applications.
But all that's to come. We should concentrate on 'right now'... an anagram of Worthing 😉
