Personally I'm disappointed that we seem to be undoing the model set in place by Adam last season of using young Sussex based players. And I certainly think that someone like Will Berry who stuck with us last season when the going was tough should have been retained rather than it seems be put out to grass.
I rather think that the first team squad is too deep - will we be loaning players out almost as soon as the season starts. The management team will have their work cut out to keep such a large squad happy.

Understand you corncerns Roger and have gone through the same thinking during the summer break
However the club have ambitions to get promoted and by doing what they have done we have a strong squad which will mean players will need to perform or risk being dropped. We are also in a position where if we get suspensions or injuries such as Tony and now Metcalfe even those players that come in know they are under pressure from our youth set up
All in all as long as we are getting the right results on the pitch we as fans will be happy

I think the philosophy of having 2 players per position is the right thing to do, as long as it remains sustainable when matched up against the revenue the football side of things generate.
With a 50+ game season, there will be plenty of game time available to keep a 22 man squad happy. We are fortunate that we have 22 players of a Step 4 standard so switching the odd player around should not impact the overall strength of the team week in, week out.
I personally think that teams should be represented solely by local players at every level of the game, but the fact is, it is never going to happen in this day and age.
Last season will be a hard one to top for entertaining football and I for one can't wait for the journey to begin with a very tough-looking opening game on Saturday.

In addition to what is in the article on the OS, according to the Southern Combination Football League OS it appears that Callum started the season playing for Selsey (Division One, Step Six) scoring twice for them at Mile Oak in a league game and then once against Erith Town in the FA Cup last weekend. Playing in the FA Cup game for Selsey means that Callum we be cup tied and therefore not be eligible to play for us in the FA Cup this season (which starts at home to Walton & Hersham on Saturday 29th August).

I spoke with him Tuesday night, he said he's about a month away. He said the management were putting together a training programme for him to follow. Have to feel for him really, a great player once we get him on the pitch his pace will be a great asset.
