Jack Pearce may well be right. Football may not be played again until this time next year, I've been thinking along similar lines too. If so, surely we have a simple solution. Hold this season in obeyance and finish it off this time next year. In effect, cancel next season instead. There will of course, be no simple solution and clubs will lose money etc, but these problems are going to exist anyway.

The Premier League and EFL have vowed to finish the current season despite it currently now being suspended indefinitely. How this pans out remains to be seen but players contracts will be adjusted accordingly. Obviously all the talk regarding this is the financial support required for professional clubs to aid with difficulties, no mention whatsoever about the hundreds of clubs outside of the professiinal game who will be struggling massively the longer this virus has hold of the country.

So rugby is to officially cancel this season below the top level. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/51974684Can only be a matter of time before other sports including football below the top levels follow this path particularly with the latest news that social distance restrictions could be in place for the whole year.

Another sad consequence of that happening, the season being declared null and void, is that officially Carl Rushworth will never have played for us.

I would think there could be a few players who may have played their last game in a Worthing shirt - Carl, Marvin and possibly Buddy. And Dean Hammond may never get to feature either. And Jesse still has 1 game of his ban still to complete!!!

Looks like they are consulting widely as to what to do, giving clubs a chance to air their views so a consensus can be reached.
I would like to think a series of options are being put to everyone and they'll go with whichever causes the least amount of damage to the least amount of clubs.
There will be no winners or losers this season, every club will lose revenue and some could fold.
All the more reason to donate if you can to the WFC fans just giving page so the damage to us is limited.
If everyone donated the money they would've otherwise spent in the last four games on entry, programmes, 50/50, golden goal, food, coffee, beer etc. then personally they'd be no worse off financially... and the club wouldn't be either.
Give it some thought, we are run on gate receipts, sponsorship and merchandise only. All that has stopped coming through.
We'll have an answer as to where our season ends in terms of league placing and promotion soon. But whether we go up or stay down the scars of this hiatus will effect next season, whenever that happens. We can do our part to bridge that gap.

Great idea Keithsson.
Although there will be plenty of people counting their pennies as the virus hits their jobs and income as many will have less to spend on their hobbies etc.
Hopefully all this talk of money being filtered down the leagues will see some sort of grants provided for all clubs in the football pyramid.
Do the government initiatives regarding support for businesses include amateur football clubs??

I would hope that the govt 80% top up grant would help salaried staff but I am unclear re the status of contracted players, let alone non contract. It seems logical to assume that contracted "staff" or players have some employment rights hence the paying off of contracts early. If they had no rights, clubs would just sack without any compunction

A bit more detail regarding the support available from Government. Provided by the FA but brought to you via the Isthmian Site - LinkIt doesn't specifically address your query Kenty but does point to the fact they're 'working on it'.

As usual my forlorn hope of finding a Worthing FC article in the Worthing Herald proved correct. There was this though, a new suggestion for how to solve the problem - LinkNot sure I like it though, 12 months without football?

I think 12 months without football won't be that far out though obviously I hope I am wrong and some sort of normality returns much sooner.
This virus isn't going anywhere anytime soon and the only way I can see the world returning to any sort of normality is when a vaccine is produced.
The social distancing measures will be here to stay for a while, used like a tap to stop the spread of the virus.
They may be lessened depending on how the NHS is coping but reintroduced when the virus becomes more widespread. I can see different areas of the country locked down regularly which will impact the internal travel and prevent sport starting up again
As for foreign travel who knows but it could be that any travel will involve a 14 day quarantine when you arrive at your destination.
Italy is struggling massively at the moment and worryingly we look to be about a week behind looking at the figures on deaths etc. Really concerning times.
