Be miffed if you had already paid full price, no?

Be miffed if you had already paid full price, no? Maybe no-one had, hence the rethink 😄

Not much of a preview as there's not much to preview. Going OK in the league and on an exciting FA Cup run, the SSCC is more than ever a bit 'meh'. But it is a game under the lights at Woodside and as the reigning champions we've got a title to defend... Match Centre - LinkMatch Tickets - LinkSSCC/STCC 23/24 ( the story so far) - Sussex FA SiteThe main factor is very much the aforementioned 'meh factor'... just how much of a stuff does each club give about this game? You never know but for us it'd be astonishing to think we'd risk the first team between yesterday's fantastic performance in the FA Cup and the visit of the league leaders Yeovil on Saturday. Down to just 14 fit outfield players ( hence we couldn't fill our bench) there's the outside chance I guess of possible returning 'injurees' in Greg Luer and Cam Tutt if their recovery is ready. Also maybe a bit more game time maybe for some of the subs from yesterday, the Starkey brothers and Michael Klass. But surely not Jake Robinson. From Crawley's point of view they've never really taken the competition seriously in recent years fielding kids, fringe players and 'stiffs'. That said there is the very outside chance circumstances could see one or two more senior players get some minutes. I looked to see their result yesterday and was gobsmacked to see their scheduled trip to Morecambe was postponed, get this, for international call-ups! No, me neither... but it turns out Morecambe is seemingly a remote outpost of the United Nations of football. Consequently lack of game time ahead of the visit of 3rd placed Crewe at the weekend might force a stronger team than they'd otherwise consider. But in truth if we go into it with the reasonable assumption it'll be Worthing Youth v Crawley Youth, anything else will be a bonus. For what it's worth I did for 'squits and giggles' try to look up what Crawley Town's youth record was like this season. However whereas our club site proudly lists details and achievements of the eight teams under our umbrella... they only carry one, their first team! I guess therefore that really does make us the biggest club in West Sussex after all 😉 The ticket price as we know has been halved to £6 meaning at least two more people, who weren't going to go at £12 on principle, will be there. But even so it'll be 100-200 only, which is fully understandable given the avalanche of home games in recent weeks and a huge league game on Saturday. Come on you Rebels!

Starkey bullet from 25 yards, cheeky Pearce dink over the keeper, Luque starting to boss it and getting on the score sheet, Robbo's standard goal and Bailey Smith shooting across the keeper and notching in off the post... 6-2 and thank you very much!
To be fair, Crawley looked sharp for 30 minutes but we raised our standards to match their pace and intensity, and they just fell apart with the pressure.
It was a very changed team, but the new worthing way is starting to take shape. These last 3 games have seen various personal, but an increasing pace and distinctive style of play. It's exciting, great to watch and it's not even Christmas yet. Roll on Saturday!

Wasn’t sure if I wanted to go tonight. But decided to go in the end. What a game. Bit of a shaky start especially for the first goal for Crawley. What a goal to equalise! Not sure what happened with the second Crawley goal as we were to far away. But then Worthing got in full swing. Almost straight away 2-2 and the rest is history. Very silly red card for the Crawley player. But no debate. At times I really questioned who were the full time professionals? One of the highlights for me was Pearce scoring and then just laugh at the goalie. Send we found a bit of form again

My first visit to Woodside Road in ages. Working 6 days a week limits when you can go. First of all, the attendance was pretty impressive tonight. Not sure I heard correctly, 647 or 687? ? And Crawley brought a fair few as well. Didn't know Adam from Eve on the pitch, so had no idea of the team, or names to faces?? After the crazy first 20 minutes or so saw 5 goals, Worthing then bossed the game. Superb game management I thought. I really don't think the sending off changed the game as second half it was all Worthing. In the end 6-2 was a pretty fair reflection on the game. I was most impressed with the Worthing number 23. Can't wait now till the end of December when I officially retire. I'll be able to go to all the home games and most of the away as well.

Well if we’ve scrapped the slow possesion based game for the up and at em game then they better start planning for a higher capacity ground because crowds will be flooding in if this form continues.

The game has been described pretty well already, gobsmacked by the line up, torn a new one in the opening minutes then found our feet. No dispute the best team won but for a while it looked like we were going to be run ragged, just what we didn't want with the more important games bookending this week. I'll reserve judgement on whether using a full blown game for a training night was a good idea until Yeovil have been seen off... or not!!
Main point I wanted to make though was the crowd. This was a 200-300 spectator maximum game (as per Crowborough last season)... until they dropped the price. It just goes to show the financial sense in tactical pricing.
I can only speak for the two I know about but we both spent more than £12 anyway with drinks and food, if you get people in the ground you make money. If you disincentivise coming you don't. Well done to the club for listening and hopefully a valuable lesson has been learned in tailoring pricing to real world considerations.
A great evenings entertainment and terrific value for money.

I stood on the terraces tonight with my mate who is a Crawley fan (And an honest one at that) He has just sent me a text,
I have just finished listening to Scott after tonight’s game and he is not a happy bunny that we showed no professionalism players not willing to play and run no preparation so it seems as if some of them might have played their last game for a while but full marks to Worthing’s players I was really impressed

Do we know how strong the Crawley side was? Having had to do some research on their side, there must have been a good 100+ football league appearances in that squad tonight!! A very impressive showing
