We have 4 at Littlehampton, 3 at Chichester, 1 at Horsham and 1 at Hornchurch. How many do you want? And none of them have done anything of note with their loan clubs to justify a starting place here two leagues up. I'd expect them to be tearing it up at their new clubs and they aren't. Even Meeks (who I love) isn't a regular starter at Horsham I think Jordan Adeyemi has gone to Hornchurch permanently too. I bow to your superior knowledge of Step 4 football Ian. Let's just bin them! Remind me again, Froome and Littlehampton. How many did we thrash them by?

He didn't even get a kick of a ball properly, what an utterly pointless signing 🤷

Remind me again, Froome and Littlehampton. How many did we thrash them by? I keep an eye on all the clubs we have players on loan at as well as those we've let go. I really should get out more... Of course we shouldn't just bin them but they are being developed and by virtue of the fact that they aren't setting the world on fire at these clubs, demonstrates they still have some way to go. Is anyone we have let go, either dual signed or permanently, doing really well now and would walk into our first team? Honestly. How many are even regular starters at their current clubs? Maybe Luca at Whitehawk would because Aarran is injured and we were short in that area before the season started. I was at both Frome and Littlehampton so I'm very aware we lost on penalties to both sides. Similarly I was also at Torquay and Farnborough where we won handsomely. I'm not a parent of a youth team player (for example) so I don't have a horse in this race. I just don't see that throwing in the kids will do us (or them) any good right now. Just my opinion but I personally think the biggest loss is Joel playing right back as we miss is goals and assists - last Saturday proved that. I also think the squad is unbalanced and has been all season. We lacked cover in central defence, an 'ugly' midfielder and a left back from game one. We have too many forward players. I question the mentality of most of the current squad (Joel and Ollie aside) but I absolutely trust Adam to get it right.

Have to say this is a post I couldn't agree with more, we don't have an ugly streak and we lack balance!! Need a CB rapidly and to push Glen Rea into CDM

Need a CB rapidly and to push Glen Rea into CDM Interesting, because both Odie and Kane are CDM, have either done anything wrong? I agree that the squad looks unbalanced and one or two of the new signings have yet to show us why they have such strong reputations. Ultimately last season we fell just short and I am sure these signings were made to rectify that situation. We are not yet half way through the season and despite some battering away from home we are still in an enviable position both on and off the pitch. I also agree with Ian, in that I have absolute confidence that Adam will sort this out. This is not blind faith but a conviction borne out of the evidence as to where the club is now.

I personally thought we played very well in the first half and created some good openings with some neat quick footed interchanges in and around their box. Second half was a carbon copy of those at Braintree, Maidstone, Hampton and arguably Alfreton. Well beaten and going down with little more than a whimper. It’s all very well looking pretty and playing well against like minded sides such as Chippenham but 75% of the sides in this league are big strong sides with a very solid spine, particularly at the back. We seem to struggle against these sides once we go behind. It’s glaring obvious that we need more physicality and I know Hinsh is as well. A big strong centre forward in the Akinbe mould is what we need IMO. There is certainly no plan B as and when are intricate passing play gets snuffed out which is becoming increasingly common now that opposing managers appear to have done their homework. With regards to the playing personnel I feel that we have been badly shortchanged by 3 or 4 of our signings (Luque, Luer, Klass). Is this a case of Hinsh not getting the best out of them or are they all busted flushes as I fear they might well be ? What concerns me is the budget being spent on these players and the squad as a whole. It is undoubtedly a good deal higher than last season and with that comes higher expectations. Hinsh has obviously identified players who he feels will take us one step further than last season but in doing so has upset the equilibrium of the squad and possibly effected the team spirit / ethos of the previous few seasons. I trust in Hinsh to get things right and I’m sure he knows what’s required. Unfortunately he seems to be hamstrung by players who are contracted and who he is unable to move on in order to sign the type of player which would give us more balance and cover (left back, centre back and centre forward). By the way, a shout out to all at WSM. A really welcoming and friendly club with great burger and chips 😎

Kane was injured at the start of the season and because of injuries, has played in almost every position other than CDM since his return to fitness Odei has done alright in the middle but possibly needs some help alongside him as Ricky is better in a more advanced role with more freedom to get on the ball and hurt teams in dangerous areas - the problem is that we have too many players that are already occupying these forward positions

In regards to players out on loan we had Reuben Livesy Austin at Bognor who fitted in nicely and somebody I would like to see back here. Could tell he has been coached well, when to tackle rather than rushing in and a good player for that level at which Bognor play it. Conf South is a totally different ball game as you’re seeing, and as an outsider you’re still having a pretty decent second season at that level.

I think Odei has probbaly been one of the better signings and has put in a good level of consistency but as has been mentioned he needs some support so we can push Ricky that little higher, I'd like to see Kane play back in the middle but the lack of defensive reinforcements appears to be preventing that right now!

By the way, a shout out to all at WSM. A really welcoming and friendly club with great burger and chips 😎 Great Post. These 'marquee' signings didn't come cheap so need to be delivering a commensurately higher level to justify it. And they simply aren't. I'm over my Klass love affair now, early promise has spawned inconsistency and now a disciplinary issue. The other two are also delivering poor value for money, have been throughout. Cashman too? Glimpses but not the consistency yet. The only characters we signed with the sort of reliable 'gameface' attitude right now, the kind I would want standing next to me in the trenches, are Odei and Nicky Wheeler. We've thrown the baby out with the bath water to accommodate them too. Players like Barks and Meeky, whilst not as talented were 100%ers, they would keep going without throwing the towel in. And I keep mentioning Buddy's influence but that entire 'esprit de cour' has left the building. The summer business, designed to give us that little bit of extra quality we lacked to push on, has, on balance, done our legs. As you say Portland putting on a show once we went ahead and the pressure was off against Chippenham on Saturday plays to the new team's new strengths... its easy with a wind behind you. A hill to climb against direct opponents?... not so much. The absence of grit and the lack of a plan B will keep us where we are. So be it, we're not ready to go up. But unless they get with the programme their contracts will hamstring us into next season too... when we MIGHT have been ready, or certainly closer to being ready to step up.

We seem to have an alarming turnover of players the last two or three seasons which will never get us to where this club needs to be, we will be going the way of Havant if we are not careful,,,,Adam needs to react pronto In my opinion and with respect, that's alarmist, reactionary nonsense. Having watched Worthing for many years (I might have mentioned this before), I started to feel a sense of unease after last night's match. In that time I have seen that decline after a period of success tends to creep up before anyone really notices: a heavy defeat is regarded as an anomaly and so is the following one, cup matches are lost to clubs several levels lower, people who played during the successful years start to drift away and new "big" names don't seem to measure up, efforts made to correct the issues don't work, the final league position is mid-table rather than pushing for promotion. And then, unexpectedly, the following season turns into a relegation battle (and, yes, I must admit I thought of Havant) and panic sets in, with a rapid turnover of managers and players, budgets being slashed etc. But then I thought of what is different now: this period of success is the longest I've seen so should be more robust, the people in charge are building strong foundations for the club rather than throwing money at it and increasing an underlying debt, we have the continuity of a manager who has committed to an extended contract, the club has a large fanbase and players want to come here. So I suppressed that uneasiness (for the time being, at least) and was thankful that things had conspired to stop me travelling to Weston and I was tucked up in bed rather than enduring a 3-hour drive home!

Lots of very valid points in this thread as always but I'm a bit shocked by the level of deeper thinking going on.
My reflection was limited to decent first half, good foundation laid to push on but we fell apart. And I wonder if we train on grass anymore because it didn't look like it!
Feeling one of 2 things but I don't know which... 1) a complete simpleton or 2) trusting in the club 🤔

When its a 'fourth off' though, in just 20 league games, plus the three tame Cup exits... its not surprising folk are seeing a pattern.

Part of the skill of player recruitment is not just their footballing ability, but do they have he right mentality, will they roll up their sleeves when the chips are down, and will they fit in with the others (not in the footballing sense), but as teammates?

At Argyle its called the 'no kn*bhead policy' 👍🏻
