I think we should be realistic about gates next season if promoted. 2,000 is massively over-optimistic. The increase in away support will be more than offset by the drop in home support once the regular wins many of the newer supporters have come to expect, turn to regular defeats and occasional wins. A probable restricted capacity from the North side development squeezing the home support into about 60% of the perimeter will put some off too. ...as will the lack of beer pitch side. Segregation will put paid to 1,000+ away supports as well

I think that is realistic. Take the last to promoted teams via the play off's Oxford NLS - 602 Oxford first year NL 943 56% Increase Dorking NLS 1455 Dorking First year NL 1962 34% increase With our average of 1492 we would just need a 34% increase to reach 2000. Remember our town size is a lot bigger than Dorking, and as for oxford they complete with the other oxford. You also have to remember being a town on the coast many Northern sides will pick us as their once a month away day etc, I live in Bury and know many Oldham/ Rochdale and Alty fans all want us to go up as its in there words 'A fun away day on the coast' Also take into account Barry's own words we have not marketed the team or coming to games properly as Woodside is not ready for large numbers and will ruin the customer experience, so with 2 new stand (Elmo's end and north) and if they do the Main bar up (we have planning for this from a year ago) The club can market correctly and that gives me no doubts with facts and data above we can reach a 2000 average if we go up.

I’d be very surprised if we didn’t average over 2K in the national league. Regardless of results the novelty factor of playing against some big names will attract a lot of occasionals. All of the ex league sides will bring loads to boost the attendance with it being a new ground for them. With the new stand built I can see there being quite a few plus 3k crowds against the likes of Aldershot/ Southend etc. Added to that the BHA factor won’t be such a great pull for the two club fans now that they’re on the way back down and knowing how fickle premier league fans are. Dorking averaged just shy of 2K in both their national league seasons both of which were at the wrong end of the table. We’ve got a far bigger catchment area than them and I would consider us on a par at least with them in terms of crowd pulling potential. ‘Build it and they will come’ as they say

This season in the NL, the team with the highest attendance finished first in the league, and the team with the lowest finished bottom.
But aside from these, the variance between finishing position and average attendance was very large in many cases - Gateshead and Solihull had average attendances of 1206 and 1445, finishing 6th and 5th respectively. Solihull are now one game away from the EFL.
York had the 4th highest average attendance and finished 20th, and arguably would have gone down if not for Hinsh. Kidderminster had the 6th highest and went down, despite Phil Brown.
If Worthing average over 2k next season, that will be higher than the team who finished 2nd this year with 86 points, Barnet.

There are actually quite a few southern based clubs in National League, and fans of ex League clubs like Oldham, Rochdale etc will relish a new ground visit. You’d be surprised how many Hartlepool might bring.

As a YCFC fan we all want Worthing to come up to the NL and I've already floated the idea of a South Coast mini break to the long haired Admiral (so long as it is Aug/Sep/Apr). Last season was a disaster for us and after the 6-1 spanking away to Altrincham in Hinsh's 4th game we were all looking forward to trips to Curzon Ashton and Spennymoor! We won 3 of the last 4 home games having previously only won 3 times at home all season (mainly due to bringing in Marvellous Marvin from Barnet). The step up from regional footy to the NL is massive and probably even bigger from NLS. Just make sure you do the business on Monday...
Edit: Somebody above said we probably would have gone down if Hinsh hadn't come in. Well, we got 1 point from his first four games and we definitely wouldn't have got hammered by Alty under Neal Ardley. However, Ardley wouldn't have brought Armstrong in when he realised we had no legs in midfield and he definitely wouldn't have beaten Aldershot, Bromley (away) and Chesterfield. The football was so much better to watch and the crowds increased (averaged 7k for the last 3 home games). Really looking forward to next season and seeing the full fat version of Hinshball.

Marvellous Marvin being an ex-Rebel, of course... Good to hear a positive view of Adam's playing philosophy from another club; there are still people at Worthing who criticise what they call tippy-tappy football. You'll probably have to accept letting in a few as well but, if you think football should be about entertainment, 801 goals scored and 614 conceded in his 400 matches in charge here certainly wasn't boring.

Oh I've already heard plenty of "gerrit forward!" from some of the more senior supporters sat near me when they try to pass it out from the back. You see enough cock-ups from PL players doing that so it's going to be an occupational hazard at Tier 5 level. As Russell Crowe once famously shouted, "Are you not entertained!"...
