You may have noticed in recent days a large number of foreign language posts appearing.
We have been deleting the posts and new users who post them as quickly as possible but its getting to be like keeping on top of a forest fire... as soon as one fire is out another pops up. I've personally seen off about two dozen in the last few days and woke to four more this morning... with two more coming while I was deleting them
We have had this from time to time previously and usually they get bored and go away. However this lot seem to be a lot more organised and persistent. Admins simply can't be online 24/7 so if you see dodgy stuff when you visit by all means please use the report function which might facilitate a quicker deletion. We can only apologise for this interruption to the normal flow of the site while this SPAM 'cyber attack' continues.
In the meantime...
- DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINKS WITHIN THESE POSTS - I'm sure everyone is savvy enough to know this but just in case anyone isn't we have no idea what they link to or what might be embedded behind those links that could infect your computer. Always assume it is malicious.
- If you are a genuine Worthing FC Fan registering at the moment can you please choose an obviously Rebels related username. Alternatively could you additionally send me a message to make it clear you are genuine. We don't want any collateral damage as we battle this foreign (possibly even state sponsored) 'cyber sweat shop'. By doing this we can better distinguish the people we want to welcome aboard from the scumbags we don't.
- Cards on the table my IT skills are limited to the day to day admin operation stuff. I wouldn't want to (and you really wouldn't want me to either!) tinker with the system set-up myself. However if any of the other Admins have the necessary skills and confidence, or indeed any trusted and longstanding site user does and wishes to bring those skills to the site as an Admin, please make yourself known. Other sites have measures in place to prevent these things... a quiz question to prevent 'bots' from access or even a short period of 'Admin approval required' initial posting for new users. I'm sure buried somewhere in the ProBoards technical manual is something preventative we could use.
Thank you for your time and patience.
