As we seem to be having a good relationship with Southampton FC at present, why not arrange a pre-season friendly with them? The days of entertaining Brighton have long since gone. Bognor seem to get Pompey each year. Just a suggestion.

Do Bognor get Pompey though?, or do Bognor get the Pompey youth team, or at best a scratch Pompey XI?
The days of league teams sending meaningful squads to opposition several leagues below their level are long gone.
The only time they do is for the very first one or two games... 'the fitness matches'... where the football doesn't matter and you get a different XI each half.
At that stage of the season though Hinch is busy doing exactly that at your Selseys, Paghams and BHA training grounds.
Also Saints, who knows possibly Pompey too if they go up, will be doing those sort of games in continental Europe on a training camp against a local side or another club on a training camp.
Times have changed, for me for the better. Hinsh has a set way of doing pre-season and it doesn't involve complete miss-match fixtures where he learns nothing. Next pre-season will be exactly the same, and to be fair it does the job. We haven't been under prepared and have had several successful seasons doing it this way.

Bognor tend to get a half decent Pompey side because of their grass pitch.

And the days where PSF results were a good guide to how a team will perform when the season proper starts seem to be dead and gone

Looking at it from a “selfish” point of view. Even if we get a mixture of players to play a match that would be great. Especially for my son. However I do get Southampton will not bring everyone to a game. But the point made about a grass pitch is a valid one and I didn’t think about it. Also the point made about Adam following a certain patter with friendlies is one to take into consideration. Will it happen? Heart says yes please! Head says doubt it!
But again this is football and stranger things have happened.

The only reason we played a strong BHA team for a PSF was because we used host their reserve sides home games. That's when Albion were playing at Withdean.
When they moved into the Amex and the training ground at Lancing was built that was it.
