Really entertaining game today with everyone putting a in a good shift. I thought it did look like we were going for the extra goal [all be it in our usual round the houses fashion] rather than just hang on to what we had. The icing on the cake would have been the extra goal and but for their goalie playing a blinder we might have scored more. Het ho, at the end of the day we won and that was the prime objective and did it in a very watchable way. Fair play to Weston, four games in a week is a big ask and they played well and could have possibly nicked a couple more goals.

Does anyone know why Joe Rye hasn’t played recently? Not sure if he’s carrying an injury as I’d have thought he’d be in with his pace.

My fear here is he's already sold and being saved for a big move somewhere...

My fear hear is he's already sold and being saved for a big move somewhere... That's my read on it, and I'm not the least bit surprised.

And at the risk of repeating myself too often... this is the downside to a 'wait and see' managerial appointment process.
Players like certainties, where am I playing and who am I playing for? And no-one knows what league we'll be in or who the manager will be.
It's not surprising therefore that heads will get turned by certainties provided by opportunities elsewhere.

One small hill to die on though, not an itch I've particularly scratched today, its been itching all season really. But today we secured our highest ever league finish... so could we please maybe stop singing the "we're on our way back" song and create some new chants this summer? Once we've exceeded everything we've ever done in the entire history of this club the only thing we can possibly 'go back to'... is being worse than we are 🤦♂️ It'd be particularly cringeworthy of course if we find ourselves in the bottom end of the National League next season. ...so too will songs about Bognor and Lewes while we're at it. The singing is great, I love the atmosphere created by the ABF, but a couple of the tunes really haven't aged well as we've improved as a club. Afraid to say not 100% true. This is step 2 (of non league) which in the past we have finished 2nd in so not technically our best ever finish. And we have not exceeded everything, only the fa cup 1st round in the past we made 2nd. So in effect yes we are still on our way back

Ha, OK then 😆
In conceding a technical defeat though on someone else's 'small hill to die on' I still claim the broader point.
The chant was perfect for the time, but times have changed, times have improved. We don't want to 'go back' to being delighted with ILPD survival and/or ILPD mid table obscurity.

So if he goes that doesn’t stop him playing for us now surely? Unless there is a stipulation? However I did hear something different re why he isn’t playing. But it doesn’t really matter. We seem to have coped without him so far. But to honest I was surprised he started the season with us as I really expected him to be picked up after last season.

Would have been my Young player of the season.

Really enjoyed yesterday for obvious reasons. But one thing I noticed even though there was a record attendance the atmosphere felt a bit flat. Usually we stand behind the goal so you don’t notice it much. But for the second half we stood near the tunnel. Only reason was that Ollie Wright promised my son a pair of goalie gloves. Which he delivered on. Son one happy boy (he is massive saints fan)
But back to the atmosphere. Second half I noticed almost a “quietness” around the ground. And it really surprised me with the amount of people in it was quiet. Was that because usually we stand in the middle of things? Or is it always like that? Or where there some many new people attending?
In the end we got the win, one goal separating us from second so a good finish to the regular season

Funny that because I think there were more toilets than I have seen at Woodside. But on a serious note hopefully the new stand will have enough facile so we can get rid of those horrible portaloos! All being well the new stand should be ready for the new season I have been informed.
