I don't know what time the notification went up on the OS to say tonight's game was off, but I checked about 4pm before going out. Stopped in at a dark Fortress woodside on the way home and guessed the game was off. I understand that games need to be called off at short notice sometimes, not arguing or complaining - but, from the OS... " With the Rebels first team in such a strong position the decision has been taken to preserve the Woodside pitch as much as possible between now and the end of the season." Does this mean that Thursday's youth game is off too, despite the first team being away on Saturday? Will there be no more youth or reserve games on the hallowed turf until the first team fulfill their glorious destiny this season? Is the previously quoted statement smelling slightly of male cow excrement?

Is the previously quoted statement smelling slightly of male cow excrement? Well it was on the OS shortly after lunch but I said nothing except to Mike who was due the dubious honour of working the T Hut. Something about once bitten, twice shy. But I did indeed see the quote about preserving the pitch and I'm not sure what it means. For a start, the local league finals are usually played during April and there are something like 5 home youth games, one County match, the County youth semi final and 2 Albion fixtures plus goodness knows how many reserve games. There are seven weeks left of the oficial season and only 4 home league games so I'm sure we will be able to fit in plenty of football especially if it brightens and warms up. Perhaps we need to consider a secong generation artificial pitch and then we could even invite Horsham to share as well

I thought I'd checked in the afternoon, but may have missed it. Not that big a deal, didn't have far to go. Still trying to get my head round the excuse about the pitch though.
Rather than sharing with Horsham, why don't we merge with United and use Lyons Farm for reserve and youth games and save Woodside for first team fixtures? Surely everyone would be happy with that solution?
(Running for cover with tongue wedged firmly in cheek)

Could work out for me, if gav was to play cos then i get to see my friends - and could we keep the worthing utd chairman as he is sensible (sometimes!), doesn't make irrational decisions and won't ban kev. ;D ;D

With respect, I think there's an assumption that it's always possible to repair the pitch to the condition it was in before any game was played - this isn't the case. If the conditions are bad enough (like today) the damage done may not be fully reparable until the close season.
Hopefully, we should start to get decent spells of dry weather, plus some good growing conditions too, which will mean that the pitch CAN support plenty of games in quick succession - but not if it's been chopped to b*gg*ry when it needn't have been.

The pitch is still in pretty good condition especially when you consider the weather this winter which is testament to the work carried out by Morty and his team. Nobody wants to see the pitch cut up - I remember some years ago when we played Cambridge City in an early round of the FA Trophy in monsoon conditions and the pitch didn't recover all season. We may though need a tame ref to get all the games we want called off - not usually a problem - and at least then we, the fans, can be told well in advance.
The main thing is that we do have to fit lots of games in the next two months. On the plus side, there are only 4 first team games and, as my front lawn attests, we are well into the growing season.
