Details of the new St Elmo's End covering have come through from the club... Club Site - LinkI have no inside knowledge, this just crossed my mind while at Hop Oast a couple of months back... but with the absence of any formal 'groundworked' terracing at that end, might we see something akin to their stand alone metal stepped arrangements? I think there's something very similar at Burgess Hill too... Hop Oast 'sheds' - Image linkIf is turns out to be like the picture int he announcement I feel it is great addition to the ground. I'm always slightly wary of 'artists impressions' though, especially ones in soft focus from a distance. Down the years there have been loads in the Herald about how beautiful the Town Centre is going to look after this that and the other has been done. I've just made a rare foray into town... yep, its still a 'hole 😄 The beauty of this build though is that it doesn't have to win any design awards, function over form will do just fine there 👍🏻

I think it may be a similar setup to those at Horsham, it feels like the most feasible and sensible approach, just with more cover being offered over a greater area, hopefully it adds to the atmosphere down the Elmos End aswell and also means when it rains we won't get dripped on anymore as the roof won't be angled for the rain to run down on fans!!

Have a feeling the actual stand will look like the artists impression

The large crowd and segregation yesterday highlighted the problem with getting from one end to the other in front of the stand. When/if we get more facilities at St ELmo's Road end, it should reduce the numbers who are heading towards the Woodside end only for beer/food/toilets but, in the meantime, perhaps it's time to enforce no standing in front of the stand?

When/if we get more facilities at St ELmo's Road end, it should reduce the numbers who are heading towards the Woodside end only for beer/food/toilets but, in the meantime, perhaps it's time to enforce no standing in front of the stand? The previously suggested reinstating of the exit onto St Elmo Road would cure the problem at full time. Not heard anything more about it, and that was a long time ago, but there is a direct path leading from St Elmo Road to the current fence line between two houses. There would be no need for a turnstile here, just an exit gate. Regarding the 'in game' situation... of potential interest in the pending development at that end of the ground I noted yesterday a sizeable concrete post and wooden panelled 'yard' has appeared in the South East corner by the 'condiments table' for the kiosk. Wrong end of the pitch I know but there was talk of a toilet block and potential food kiosk going in under the mobile phone mast where the 'goals on wheels' are currently housed. Could this new 'paddock' be to house the goals, and thus be the first 'spade in the ground' sign that things are finally going to happen in the South West corner?

Should have realigned the fence and grabbed a couple of yards in front of the main stand when the plastic was laid . Probably to late now ! ☹️

The same for behind both goals, if you look on google maps there’s extra space north east behind the goal line and south west if the stand was exactly adjacent to the pitch, right now it’s diagonal

The lopsidedness is demonstrated clearly in this video from a couple of years ago - Club Site
We don't look at the ground from the air so as much as it sets my OCD off its perfectly functional. However as we go forward space becomes a premium, wasted space becomes more unforgivable. Not sure what we could do with the South East corner. But given the long term plan is to redevelop both the North side and the the West side anyway, reclaiming that NW corner would surely be feasible. If nothing else it'd make a wider/safer thoroughfare and that spot is exactly where the 'third exit' onto St Elmo I mentioned earlier would go... could become a bottleneck in big games with segregation as the North stand and West Stand merge to filter out.

Personally I would go one step further and add 2 small turnstiles as regulation for the league above is 8, right now is it 6 we have? (4 original and the 2 away)
If they don’t go in the north east not sure what the plan would be

In terms of increasing capacity for the future, has there been any thought of shortening the pitch by, say 5 metres, to increase standing capacity at either or both ends?

I think realistically that probably won't happen, from a cost perspective I don't think it will produce a great enough capacity increase for the outlay. Digging out the North Bank and having that properly levelled and then tiered will bring the greatest increase relative to cost I reckon, and then long term you would be best served by replacing the shed end on the east side with a new stand and then catering/bar underneath but that's way off and talking big bucks there!!!

Without looking up our current dimensions and the regulation minimum I wouldn't know if there is even scope for that to be possible. What is impossible on a practical level though is cutting the 4G up. On a grass pitch you just paint new lines, with this bad boy the lines are integral. Having seen the size of the rolls that went down I'd wager it would almost take the entire reinstallation of the pitch.

Very welcome and I appreciate it has been delayed by seeking to get best value from the contractors who quoted but the timing could be better. This will take the St Elmo end out of commission until the final matches of the season, if it runs to time. I would prefer to wait until the end of the season and get it done in the long summer period where it wouldn’t impact home games. Space is already at a premium. Imagine another bumper crowd of 2200 and no St Elmo end? In terms of increasing capacity for the future, has there been any thought of shortening the pitch by, say 5 metres, to increase standing capacity at either or both ends?
