Pitch watch update...
We now have only half a surface. There's still some green and red up to the half way line on the east side but beyond that towards the west end shed there is just black and a number of rolled up bits of surface 😎

Like the episode of Yes Minister when they had a brand spanking new hospital and no patients.

Away from football a walk past the ground this morning revealed some green stuff on top of the tarmac down towards the west end.
Very difficult to tell from the angle and distance I was at but I couldn't make out any red before the terrace. It's possible therefore the new pitch doesn't have a red border like the old one.

The Red was actually against the rules last time around, the contractors just asked George if he wanted it and they didn't check.
No time frame was given but at some point regardless of what's happened since it would have had to have been changed eventually.

Obviously nothing new has happened in recent days but a walk past the ground this morning showed a bit of progress since the last update.
We now have white lines on the pitch (cue Grandmaster Flash for anyone of a certain vintage).
Now I was never so naive to think the lines were ever painted onto plastic grass but I kinda assumed the white was integral to the 'carpet', ie pre fabricated off site.
But looking at the earlier images and now the white/green offcuts in the waste bin it seems the green was laid then the lines cut out and relaid in white. Quite a fiddly job I'd imagine.
Next it looks like the surface will be dressed as the front of the ground is stacked roof high with giant bags of sand and rubber pellets.
Events off the field may mean we won't be playing for a month or three at least. But the evidence at Woodside Road points to the contractors being on schedule for the original mid January deadline 👍

Good news regarding the pitch, sounds like it will be completed soon. At least if the season is curtailed we will have the option to hire the pitch out for 6 a side kickabouts to bring in some revenue - obviously once Covid restrictions allow of course!!

Not sure the lines were painted, given the evidence in the 'offcut bin' last week, but there you go. The sand mountain is certainly diminishing rapidly though...

Woodside will be in contention for the 'longest time a new pitch has not staged a competitive game' award the way things are heading!?

Everything else may have stopped but there is no pause in the activity at Woodside Road.
First thing this morning the machinery was in action. It looks like the sand has all gone now but if anything there are even more giant bags of rubber pellets stacked up.
They're being picked up by a small mobile crane, carried to a little truck with a hopper on it and then driven up and down the pitch getting sprayed out evenly... a cleaner version of muck spreading.
It was good to watch some action. One day it'll be passes being sprayed about but in the absence of football that's as good as the entertainment gets 🤭
