It’s my sad duty to report that Roger Johnson died this morning.
Roger loved, supported and volunteered at our club for decades. He was someone I counted as a real friend who was a kind, entertaining and generous man who will be much missed.
Our condolences to his son Daniel, his family and friends.

Such very sad news. I've known Roger from the time I first started watching Worthing when I first moved to the town. He loved his football, his live music, his trips to Scotland and of course, his real ale. He was one of life's good guys and will be sadly missed. Deepest condolences to his son Dan. RIP Roger.

A sad day, echo the thoughts above. At times we didn't always see eye to eye but I'll be forever grateful for his advice and support over the last few years especially with the programme switchover.
Some great memories indeed, pot noodles in the tea hut needs a comeback. Also took a keen interest in railway holiday homes which we spoke about only recently, a common interest via Facebook. RIP Roger.

Regarding the tea hut Sam, a suggestion has popped up on the ABF Twitter page...
I never knowingly met Roger personally but through his programme notes and posts on here you could tell there he had a sharp wit and and a deep love for the club. He will be very much missed.
Having been closely involved in all aspects of the club for as long as he did, his name facing the pitch on the new tea hut going forwards would seem a small but fitting tribute.

I'm beyond sad, the news about Roger has hit me hard.
Roger was a man, who loved his local sport and in particular, Worthing Football Club and did many roles within the club over many years in a voluntary capacity.
So many people will have great memories of him and it is just a shame, that due to current restrictions the there is no football for our team at the moment.
However, when football does return to Woodside Road, we must all raise a glass of real ale or something equally appropriate in Roger's memory.
My sincere condolences go to Daniel and the rest of Roger's family and friends.
Richard Goodyer.

Sad sad news and can only echo what has been said. Always had a lot of time for Roger and a man who had great knowledge of Worthing from watching the Rebels for many years. I used to see him in the Selden Arms and at various beer festivals where he enjoyed a real ale or 10. RIP

Still coming to terms with the sad passing of Roger,a true friend for over 20 years.
I hope all the kind words which have been expressed on this Forum will give a degree of comfort to Dan and the family in what are very difficult times for them.

I just wanted to echo the comments above. I was gutted to hear the news yesterday; Roger was a true fan, a proper non-league man and over my years did so much for the club. He will of course be remembered for running the tea hut which was so popular in his day with queues running back to behind the goal. I think he will have a wry smile that he will be forever remembered for his pot noodles. Whatever stands on that site, it will always be Rogers Tea Hut to me and many fans in the same way as the ground/stadium will always be Woodside Road. As suggested on twitter yesterday, it would be fitting to the name the new building after Roger and if that’s not possible have a memorial plaque. As well as the above Roger was secretary for the under 18’s and in recent years the women team as well as taking on the role of programme editor. He was also involved with WFCSA over the years. Roger never made a big thing of his volunteering he did it for the good of club and for the love of the club, despite all the above it was my understanding that he still paid on the gate like everyone else and never looked for or asked for special status. My memory of Roger was he always had time for genuine fans of both ours and opposition clubs and that’s being reflected on this thread. He always said Hello when you saw him and he made you feel welcome to Worthing FC. He is a big loss to the club not just because of his volunteering, but more so because of the man he was. R.I.P. Roger. My condolences to Dan his family and Roy, Ian and his many friends at this time.
