This is utterly devastating news. Steve was one of, if not the, nicest, friendliest, kindest, wisest people I've ever met through football. He never had a bad word to say about anyone, and treated everybody, regardless of their status, with the same courtesy and respect. The other Sunday, he was around and about at Woodside, like he often was, when the ref in the U16 game v Chi pulled up with a dodgy hammy. With no fuss, Steve stepped in to referee the game, and did a properly awesome job - we had a penalty, hit the post, the taker then immediately smashed home the rebound. No dice says Steve - obviously correctly, and to the consternation of many observers who don't know the rules.
In some ways, it was quite poignant that there was a schools tournament on the Woodside pitch this afternoon, given Steve's involvement with the coaching and development of so many youngsters over the years.
He was an absolute diamond, and he will be missed enormously - my thoughts are with Marcus and the rest of the family.
RIP Steve - WFC have lost a true club legend today

I can't claim to have known Steve or even chatted to him as far as I can recall, but by the quality of his work as seen in our young players, all Rebels fans can see how good a man he was. They play without fear, with skill and a great attitude; not a bad tribute to him I feel.
