I'm sorry to say that my dad, Roy, died at home on Saturday morning after a period of illness at the age of 76.
My dad was a fan (season ticket holder for 30 years) who until his illness, rarely missed a game, home or away. He had many friends at WFC, many of whom are still with us, some who he has joined on the other side (no, not Bognor)
One of the greatest things that he passed on to me was his love of our great club. He left us as we were top of the highest league we have ever competed in with the club in the very best of hands on and off the pitch. And I know that right up until the very end, that gave him enormous satisfaction.
Have him in your thoughts as you were all in his when he couldn't attend games towards the end of his life.
I'll let people funeral arrangements etc in due course.
@keithsson - can you move into the Gone but not forgotten thread when this has run its course

Beautifully put Ian; your father was one of the first Rebels I really got to talk to when I resumed watching Worthing and was a true supporter.
RIP Roy

He was Worthing through and through, was truly one of the best always happy to have a chat say hello and one of the most recognizable faces behind the goal and someone who was always there come rain or shine.
He will be missed be so many people.
RIP Roy

I first ran into Roy when, well, I nearly ran into him! We were both working at the Gateway Building Society at the time, it was going home time, and I was a recently-qualified driver in my old Cavalier. One of its failings was that the inside of the windscreen always misted up when it was slightly cooler outside, and that it took ages to demist (I sometimes got home before it had fully cleared...). Anyway, after wasting 10 minutes trying to clear it, I set off from the car park, wiping the screen furiously, when Roy appeared in front of me on his bike...luckily the car's brakes were good!
Roy obviously forgave my dodgy driving as he was frequently one of my passengers to away matches in the later 80s/early 90s. I was also part of the committee when he resurrected the supporters' club and opened up the club shop, so spent a lot of time talking programmes with him and trying to think up ways to raise money for the club.
Ian, sorry for your loss. I'll make every effort to be at the funeral; unfortunately, that seems to have been a frequent occurrence in the past year.

Dad's funeral will be Friday 22 September at 1330 at Worthing Crematorium.
There will be a "drive by" at Woodside Road beforehand around 1250
The wake is at Worthing FC afterwards.
Thank you to everyone for their kind wishes.
Also, I would add that the club did the minute's applause for him unprompted and unrequested. Even though we are considerably 'bigger' now than we were during his supporting lifetime, it was so classy of them to do this and something that myself and my family were so very grateful for. My special thanks to everyone at WFC for everything they have done.

Hi Ian, I’ve been watching Worthing for a mere four years, and thanks too your Dads input and support over the years I am now getting the benefit myself watching the entertaining football that this club is now giving me. I come from Haslemere but it’s always worth the travel. RIP TO YOUR DAD.

Just a quick bump on this.
It’s my dad’s funeral tomorrow (Friday 22 September) and there will be a “drive by” at Woodside Road around 1250.
If any of you are around, it would be nice to see you there to give him a wave as he heads off to the crematorium.
Thanks, Ian
