Well the jinx is well and truly over. Enjoyed that today. Easy journey up and a jar or 3 in Spoons before the match. And what a weird start to the game. In the time it took to walk from one end to the other it was 1-1. Same when we went 2 up, at the blink of an eye it was 2-2. It was important to hold on to the 3-2 lead at half time. St Albans had a lot of chances in the second half and Ollie Wright was up for the task. We needed that fourth goal. Very impressive turnout by the Worthing fans. Train journey back was easy. Managed to catch a train prior to the cancelled 17.27 one. Changed at Gatwick and was back in Lancing just after 7 thirty. Like it or not but the National League is now more than a real possibility.

Gotta love a jinx buster ππ» There's a third option to 'like it or not'... "que cera cera". I've only briefly been properly for it, the week after the Chelmsford win. That result and the 'reveal' of the plans for the North side stand won me over. Then came that pathetic run of results and the prospect of just how big a 'new one' we'd have torn was terrifying all over again. But I think we can safely say that win or lose the play-offs, we'll be OK. Go up and that stand gets built while we learn a valuable lesson in just what's required up there. If so then we mustn't speculate to accumulate, we must plan (financially at least) for immediate relegation. Re-group and go again in the NLS in 25/26 with a much improved ground and a much wiser squad. Yo-yo our way to NL security. But stay down and with year on year progress secured the mission has still been accomplished. Next season sees a new manager, a new challenge and the final season of the three year plan to go full time or hybrid full time. Either has merit so "...what will be will be" ππ»

There's some good stuff on Aarran's credentials/suitability for the job. It's a discussion which will undoubtedly continue but it'll get lost to obscurity if it just tags on the end of a random match thread.
To that end I've merged those posts onto the 'new manager suggestions' thread so that everything related to this vitally important appointment will all be in one place ππ»

A St Albans fan's vlog of yesterday's match - www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNdKDjqTdhwLots of good shots of our support yesterday. One disappointment (for me) is that he thinks the history between our two clubs started in NLS...

Can't see it from those highlights, and let's be honest a) it doesn't really matter and b) Joel isn't going to force the issue with Ollie, but the opener is his... This still is from behind the goal and shows his shot was clearly over the line before their keeper scooped it back and Ollie forced it (back) in... Twitter/X

Highlights can be misleading but it looks like we were a shade fortunate. Looked vulnerable down the sides again. Can't afford to have our quickest defender and best header of the ball on the bench surely!

Twitter/XI've just written an article about goalscoring for Saturday's programme, and I mention in it that it is sometimes difficult to work out who scored, even when it appears obvious at the time. In the absence of goal-line technology, I am happy to attribute this one to Ollie: I suppose the question is, would it have been given if he hadn't forced it (back) in? More concerning to me is that it looks like the earth in the middle of the goal-line is higher than that at the posts, which means that we were playing on a pitch that didn't conform to the laws of the game!

What the highlights did show though, is just how good Ollie Wright was. But we all knew that didn't we.
Controversial discussion... He's not as good with his feet as Josh Jeffries, Toby Bull or Rocco Rees. But do we gain more losing that sweeper/GK and their attacking quality but adding his shot stopping and physical presence for crosses? I think so. Was this the philosophy compromise we needed with Hinsh but never got?

Just managed to watch the highlights. And I thought they were of a very good quality. Very good picture quality, thought the commentary was good as well. Always adds something extra I think.

Comparing the two Southampton keepers, Ollie Wright is three years older so you would expect his keeping to be three years more advanced. He also had half a season in the NLS before joining us. If you think we aren't playing out from the back as much or as effectively it is more likely to be the shape the new management has settled on and the personnel playing it.

Was this the philosophy compromise we needed with Hinsh but never got? . I said some thing along those lines to my son. OW is maybe not the best with his feet at times. But for me the primary function of a goalkeeper is to keep the ball out of the net. And is he doing that!! One advance I can see with a keeper like Ollie we play the ball quicker up the pitch instead of going back to the keeper all the time. I think it was last season that Harrison was in the top 3 for the most touches in the league. But worrying he played in goal! Not sure what will happen next season whatever league we end up playing in. We deffo need a goalie like Ollie if not better. I am more than happy to have him for another season. Really sorry but I canβt see Rees returning in goal for us at this moment in time.
