COME ON WORTHING!!! It's my 30th Birthday party today so won't be at the game ( got wet enough at Bath last weekend ) but come on boys!! We've got this!! *pompey away round 2 😍 I larfed and I larfed and I larfed, and I am still laughing now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel for Adam and Ollie, drove up from Newhaven and then stayed over for the Pompey game at Chesterfield. They will get to laugh about it some years in the future, gallows humour will see to that, but as we are now it'll hurt.

Today's misquote is from Jim Bowen....here's what we could have won - Walsall at home. A few of us know a former Worthing secretary who would have enjoyed that one. If you then follow Walsall route all the way back, lots of ifs and buts but it could have been a Worthing Vs Bognor 2nd round tie. Imagine 😅 Unlucky against Alfreton, not the dream 1st round tie as a club you would want but still great to be in it rather than not.

I wondered if we would have been ball #2, as that seems daft given our alphabetics. Then I saw Barnet were #1 and it was clearly sod all to do with alphabetical order. So I researched, and discovered that the number relates to when the team came out of the hat (plastic drum) in the previous round. Which was news to me - we might have been knocked out, but I can take small consolation from learning something new at the age of 51 When exempted teams enter a round they are numbered alphabetically from 1; so in the draw for round 3 the Premier League and Championship sides will be numbered 1 to 44 in alphabetical order, the winners of round 2 ties numbered as 45 to 64, in the same order as they were drawn for round 2 (as you said).

Now I'm not one to believe in coincidences, but there was something niggling me about that draw, so I checked the records. When we first reached round 1 of the FA Cup in 1936-37, we lost at Yeovil; in round 2, Yeovil were drawn against Walsall (losing 1-0 in the home replay after a 1-1 draw).

Hard to imagine that one, as for that to happen it would mean Bognor would have to string a few wins together and that's rare right now Jokes aside that would have been an interesting tie, and with both sides left in the Trophy with winnable draws I wouldn't bet against it.

Lets face it we struggle against big strong physically defensively organised, lminded teams.
We are lacking a general especially in midfield. It's like we need a couple of beefy boys ourselves who chan stand up to more physical opponents and mix it up a bit.

Alfreton, if successful against Walsall, are drawn away to Southampton... it could've been the dream/nightmare game for one of our number 🤣

My lad is a Saints fan and a Rebels fan but not a poster on the forum. I asked him this evening if indeed Saints played Worthing in the third round, 'Who would he support'? He honestly did not know the answer. Same with myself. What I will say though is, earlier in the season Saints were drawn at home to Grimsby in the Caribo Cup or whatever it is called these days?? Grimsby fans turned up in there thousands with inflatable fish. Memory lapse, I can't recall the score!!!!!!!!! but aren't Worthing known as the Mackerels??? So you never know what the outcome would have been? ??

It was last season's FA Cup and Grimsby won at St Mary's (I'm also a Saints fan, having grown up in Netley and gone to school in Hamble, as my parents moved down from Glasgow when I was 11)
