"findonrebel", I respect your opinion and of course it is very frustrating that we really struggle to break down this "low block" tactic (which is just a modern term for sticking ten men behind the ball) used by so many teams because they are worried about what our slick possession and passing game can do to them. Every team at every level finds this opposition approach very difficult to solve, but patience is needed in trying to find that space that will present an opportunity. It will take a better person than any of us on this forum to find the right answer.

Another "oops" from me. Pumping it long is not the answer. Hoofball is a 50/50, who has the biggest, strongest players. Not for me !!

I get that we play that way and that's how we are set up, but the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again expecting different results? Which in these types of games we have done to an extreme let's face it and I think a large portion of fans would like to see an alternative when it comes to those moments, I include myself in that because we can have 99% of the ball, but it's irrelevant if we don't win the game! We aren't a bad team, but a better team would have a solution to break these sides down, and that's the difference between those at the top and those not ultimately! As for the comments about players, it's always going to happen regardless if you play for Pagham or PSG! Ultimately we all get an eye cast over us in life and we all face criticism and people telling us we aren't good enough or can't do it! If players see that, read it or whatever then okay, use it as motivation and push on, Greg Luer can still end up as top scorer this season and Klass might end up dominating Midfield, Roco might not make another error all season! Fair criticism is a part of life sadly, how you respond to it defines where you end up!!

Depends what you see as personal I suppose "tonyh". Only commenting on here but the VAST majority is not personal in my opinion, but based on opinion about performances. Doubt it's the same on Twitter/X etc. To be fair. We all have opinions and as with yours it is respectfully different to mine. It's more likely as the club grows though sadly and people join who are less connected (Initially) to the players and merely repeat what happens in the papers! You may know more than me about players reading this forum and Hinsh certainly knows more about managing than anyone on here. Hope they realise we are still behind them and can take some critique... doubt anyone here is as critical as Hinsh at half times! 😉

Football messageboards eh? 🤷🏻
There is no right or wrong opinion and no opinion is more or less valid than any other. They are by their very nature individual opinions.
Again, personally, I wouldn't be interested in participating in a 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' entity that only says nice things about the team/club. That would be a sterile experience. The site is independent of the club and as such users are free to give their honest opinion.
There are nevertheless boundaries but I can't see where a boundary has been crossed.
As an observation though I think one should always bear in mind the timings of posts. Straight after a game there is always going to be more of a visceral 'kick the cat' reaction than 24 hours later when we've all had a good night's sleep and chilled out a bit.
The main thing is that we all dust ourselves down and go again to support the team next game.
So it's all fair in love and war, if it does get genuinely personal or abusive it will be dealt with. Never had to do it so far so please just keep your opinions coming folks 👍🏻

What about as an 'in game' plan B though?, an option to our currently toothless corners?, an option when it becomes clear early that the bus has been parked and we can't 'walk through it'? An option for the keeper to take every now and again to keep the opposition on its toes? No-one is asking for the 1980's Wimbledon style to be adopted, just an alternative option, a different weapon in the armoury, more of a blended approach than the current one dimensional one.

An option for the keeper to take every now and again to keep the opposition on its toes? No-one is asking for the 1980's Wimbledon style to be adopted, just an alternative option, a different weapon in the armoury, more of a blended approach than the current one dimensional one. The Plan A worked well for so long because the players trained it regularly and opposition were either not good enough (more so pre-NLS), or not savvy enough to deal with it. Season two in NLS and teams are both good enough and savvy enough; but presumably an effective Plan B will take time to develop, implement and identify the players to maximise the options (just like Plan A). We have used a variant of hoofball, the banging diagonals to Nicky or Greg (the former better once in possession, but the latter better at collecting from the position) - but overall the speed and accuracy isn't there in the passes... There's definitely scope to have alternative patterns of play and options, but surely it would take time (and much of the summer will have been spent getting the new squad up to speed on Plan A; Plan B is an in-season sequel).
As for the corners - with Aarran out, we are so light in that area that I genuinely think the team's hands are tied. I don't see where variation comes from unless there is recruitment - because the alternative is Joe Rye up, and Kane/Joe F facing transition attacks every time we whip one in.
The overall debate is an interesting one, and I wonder if satisfaction with playing style seems part of people's concerns (all very valid). It's interesting to note that we finished last season in 4th with 1.69 points per game, and we are currently 8th with 1.66 ppg (with at least a game in hand over the teams above). If teams have found us out, and we do manage to find a way to approach getting through the parked bus, we will be pushing hard for that spot behind Yeovil. If not, and we are roughly in the position we were in last year, I think we'll be closer to 'happy' than 'frustration'.

Well Hoof Ball won't work with Munchkins (apologies to anyone personally offended!).
Manchester City always struggled against teams that were happy to defend deep until PEP adapted plan A to include Haaland. Even when we crossed the ball at every opportunity in the last 10 on Tuesday we still didn't look like scoring. We would be a completely different proposition with, as an example, Jason Prior leading the line. Wouldn't need to do anything differently but would have someone able to head Wheeler's crosses.
ps. I don't think we have given Littlehampton enough credit for their victory. I was expecting them to tire in the last 20 but they didn't. They had some irritating players but certainly put one hell of a shift in and deserved their win.

Time to draw a line under this now and move on.
No point dwelling on it any further.
It's a learning curve, we all knew this seson will be tougher.
On to Chippenham and hopefully three points!!!

Some interesting posts here. Certainly last night's result was a shock and a tad embarrassing. The side that we put out should have been more than capable of beating spirited but very limited opponents but in cup games there is no divine right to win at any level. I do agree with the comments that whenever we are confronted with a team that sets up defensively we really do struggle to break them down as has been seen several times already this season. However, some of the opinions expressed are in my humble opinion bordering on the histrionic. I certainly do not subscribe to the view that one or two players are just happy to pick up their wages simply because I know that Adam would certainly not accept it. "Mid-table obscurity" being a classic. So what, even if that was the case, which it clearly is not at the moment. Play-offs last season and still in that position at the moment. I get what some people are saying but as someone whose allegiance to the club goes back to 1973, as a player, management and supporter I personally am still living the dream and generally thoroughly enjoying it. If you think we have problems, how do you think the supporters of big spending Havant & Waterlooville and Eastbourne Borough feel. I much prefer to just sit back, enjoy the ride and accept that there will always be the rough to go along with the smooth. Doubtless I will be shot at, but "thems my views". Post of the thread, well said 👍

What bright spark gave him a 2 year deal?? I'm sorry but there is something fishy about that deal!! Who's his agent? They worked wonders!! Ian Hart I’d imagine!!! Not guilty 😂 But I think a few of you are doing Greg a little bit of disservice, he will come good 👍

Not guilty 😂 But I think a few of you are doing Greg a little bit of disservice, he will come good 👍 . If he gets more than 5 goals this season it will be a miracle!
