Sad news that both Harvey Sparks and Ben Pope are leaving Worthing FC; hopefully it will turn out to be for pastures new higher up the pyramid. Thanks you both, I hope you are both successful in the future much higher up the pyramid.

That's a big disappointment. A player with flair, passion and who gave his all. Sorely missed. Best of luck and thanks Zack.

Yup. It wasn't just his pace and the fact he always carried a goal threat, he brought others in by totally occupying the attention of the defence. They had to keep an eye on Zak at all times which allowed gaps to open up for the other forward players to exploit. He won't be easily replaced, I just hope someone of the same ilk can be found so we can set up and play in the same attractive way. If we're playing out from the back again then it requires craft and pace up there not height and muscle. If we can't get Reece Meekums back either then that's a further loss for craft and pace too. In better news at the back, Sam Rents signs back on... worthingfc.com/2018/05/23/rents-remains-stalwart-signs-again/

It is some what surprising that no one has mentioned that Ben Pope joined Burgess Hill Town just after leaving Worthing FC.
If any player leaves to go up the pyramid for a higher challenge then fair enough, as per the ethos of our club of not standing in a players way should such an opportunity present itself. However allowing such a talented player with such a bright future to join a direct local competitor in the same division frankly opens up those running our club to serious questions about the ethos of our club regarding the pathway. Taking the (Green) Elephant (in the room) head on; With Ben Pope, Harvey Sparks, Henry Watson and (to a lesser extent due to his location) Zak Newton all leaving, this appears to be a very worrying sudden trend/blip? as surely these very talented players should be being developed in our first team at Woodside Road if at all possible; I though we were supposed to be developing our own in house talent on a FULL pathway as the club grows and progresses up the pyramid? It is pretty gutting to see these four extremely talented players who are still developing at a real pace leave our club.
Our loss will be up to four other clubs significent gain. Best of luck to Ben, Harvey, Henry and Zak for their playing future.

If you want to succeed in football management, a certain ruthlessness is required, and lots of voices on the terraces would disagree with you strongly Sparky, regarding at least one of the players you list. But I'm naming no names. And indeed, good luck to all of them.

Tend to agree with Alf, Personally I don't think Adam would have signed a contract if he didn't think he could take the club forward with the resources we have. Players will come and go and I think for the time being his judgement should be trusted that he will get the players he wants for the system we play, which I have to say, was good to watch and developing nicely as last season ended. Talking of Ben Pope, he always gave it his all and was a loyal servant to the club, but I sensed the writing was on the wall for him as he didn't get the game time you would expect towards the end of the season. Good luck to him at BHTFC. The next few weeks will be interesting to see who comes in. I see Bognor have got Robbie Blake in as coach which will attract probably players who might otherwise consider us. I wonder who has the bigger budget?

Good luck to him at BHTFC. The next few weeks will be interesting to see who comes in. I see Bognor have got Robbie Blake in as coach which will attract probably players who might otherwise consider us. I wonder who has the bigger budget? Speaking to my son in law who went to college with new signing James Crane (and has kept in touch) it would seem to be us. What he told me (and it fits with the comments Crane made upon signing) was also from a number of contacts he has in the local non-league scene that things aren't too rosy at Bognor. I couldn't tell you pounds, shillings and pence what Bognor have to spend relative to us but when the noises off are about a seeming lack of ambition there, and appearances are pointing to ambition here, I would've thought to any player choosing a move to either Bognor or Worthing would likely choose us. It is always a bit scary when proven players move on but the replacements have yet to arrive. The time to make judgements about budgets and ambition though is not now, it's when the revolving door has eventually stopped turning and we find out who came in too. If we get better players in by the time the season starts, then great. The club has stated that the budget remains the same next season. Fair enough, we don't want to overstretch ourselves which could leave us in financial peril. The trick will be for Hinch to ensure he gets more bang for his buck with those he does sign, gaining the proverbial quart from a pint pot. That'll be tough but that's a situation that would've been clear to him when he signed. The fact he did suggests he's up for the challenge, and more power to his elbow, I look forward to seeing who comes in.
