Hi, first posting but have been a part time lurker here for a while pleased with the Meekums signing as he's proven at this level, but can't help thinking that one of the others might go now with four strikers available - keeping all of them happy will be tricky, thoughts?

Hi, first posting but have been a part time lurker here for a while pleased with the Meekums signing as he's proven at this level, but can't help thinking that one of the others might go now with four strikers available - keeping all of them happy will be tricky, thoughts? Welcome aboard There's no problem with options, a greater problem by far is the lack of options. We don't play a binary system of inflexible rigid positions anyway. Ollie Pearce I thought was excellent in a wider role towards the latter stages of last season (almost a wingback at times) and we know Reece has been used both wide and centrally by Hinch, he's very good at either. We want flexibility, both from the off and for 'in game' options. I would be surprised and disappointed if anyone has been told, or indeed just expects, to have a guaranteed starting place and position of their choice. Dawes, Kealey, Pearce, Meekums, Starkey (and who knows maybe even more to come?), there's plenty of room there for rotation of starting places, position switching, fresh legs from the bench etc. On a more general point. Last season's injury and suspension situation after Christmas showed us that you can never have enough strength in depth. If history repeats itself then we'll need a flexible and adaptable squad with players comfortable in multiple roles. And let's be honest if we don't have an injury crisis and the biggest problem we have is a higher level of competition forcing better performances from players being pushed by their colleagues to keep hold of their shirts... that's not a bad problem to have. Edit - Herald item on Reece's return - Link

So frustrating Kealy is always in the team for his work rate, he distracts defenders and makes good runs. Not a massive goal threat which is where he falls down but his overall play particularly away makes a difference at times. On the subject of Meekums he will end up playing wing back in my opinion (played most of his loan spell out there of course)

What about our budget ? I would have sooner signed a left back in the last back position , should never have got shot of Sam Rents ( as I keep saying ) Asking Meekums to playing wing back can only be a joke , he will want to play with Dawes . For me Kealy has to go , for me a big guy he is too lightweight . Saying he makes a difference ( with respect ) at times just is not good enough . Money should be used on a ball winner midfield player with an engine and a very good keeper . Only then do we have a team .

He’s been with us on and off for 2 seasons and hasn’t, unfortunately, cut it in the league above. But - definitely a good player for us, just not surprising! Fingers crossed the GK situation is resolved soon, I think that will calm lots of nerves - mine in particular

To say he distracts defenders is a bit much. Omar distracted defenders, he was the master at that. There’s few players in the team who divide opinion, it’s a good thing it gives us something to talk about on here.

It's worth remembering that at the start of last season Callum Kealy was still a teenager. He is certainly not the finished article and has a lot to learn, but who better at this level to guide him than Hinch? He may be 4 or 5 years away from his peak and I think he has a lot to offer, personally. Not all good strikers are judged simply by the number of goals they score. I think we are right to continue to invest in him.

A good read until the last paragraph, which doesn’t fill me with much enthusiasm? Perhaps it’s realistic though.
