That’s very interesting. Surely if any “big” clubs wanted our players, they’d then just wait until the end of the season, as they’ve just done... to avoid any money changing hands - seems a pointless exercise then to have them on contracts other than stopping sideways steps?

A probable loan deal isn’t exactly building for the future

A probable loan deal isn’t exactly building for the future But what about if the class of the player outweighs the ones that are available and saves money with wages etc which also allows strengthening in other areas!!

Surely if any “big” clubs wanted our players, they’d then just wait until the end of the season, as they’ve just done... to avoid any money changing hands - seems a pointless exercise then to have them on contracts other than stopping sideways steps? Again, I apologise if my memory is wrong We could have, in theory, put any of the players concerned on a contract after a 7 day approach notification was made by the clubs wishing to sign our players. This would have made WFC then liable for full payment for the length of the contract if say Sutton Utd decided not to proceed, or if our fee demands were too high, or indeed if the player decided to stay with us. Of course, that contract would begin immediately, with no match revenue coming in to the club and the player, being out of contract at present, is under no obligation to accept our offer of a contract. During the season of course, we have revenue, and we are also very much aware of a players current form, how desperate the other club is etc. The other consideration is how high transfer fees are in such situations. From what I hear from around the country the answer is not nearly as high as one might imagine. Yes, there is the odd £10,000 fee, but the vast majority from our level or thereabouts are £5,000 or less; not forgetting that the receiving club, in order to pacify supporters, often gives a headline figure that includes all possible add-ons, incentives etc. Regarding pre season friendlies being built into an offer, just don't get me started. FGR shafted us right royally by sending a youth/development squad rather than the 1st team as promised and Folkestone were done up like kippers by a certain team from SE London not so long back in a similar way. Sadly, the foodchain facts of life are that clubs like ours depend on decency from our so called betters, and with certain honourable exceptions, that is more that a little lacking. Rant over

www.isthmian.co.uk/this-ones-a-keeper-57393Lewes will be borrowing a keeper from Brighton for next season. Hopefully he is not the one we were looking at as hinted at in the article posted by Keithsson a few posts ago.

That’ll be a shame if so. Can’t imagine Brighton have masses that are up to the level just yet - hopefully it won’t be a real youngster
