With Jacco's suggestion the other day about it being built regardless of promotion or not... could it maybe even be done pre-season? 😯 Unlikely I know with the time required for tendering but who knows, maybe that was being done simultaneously. Either way this is fantastic news, I half expected some sort of NIMBY residents group would form in objection to it. It is fantastic news but I do understand the objections of residents. It is a built up residental area and I would object with the disruption and lack of parking. We all need live all alongside each other. I'm talking from experience of someone living next door to a busy high school where there is constant development and disruption!

Whilst I appreciate its not ideal for them, every single one of them would have moved in knowing they live next door to a football club. In regards to lack of parking even when we were getting 250 in Ryman south if I rocked up at 2.45 I would struggle to park as all spaces were taken. Yes its not ideal but Im sorry for this case I have little sympathy.

Also, apart from first team match days, so on average just once a fortnight between August and April, there's minimal traffic.
Certainly a darn sight less cars than would be buzzing around if developers squeezed dozens of modern flats and 'houses' onto that plot if the club wasn't there.
Careful what you wish for I say.

I love locally and yes it gets busy, but I'd rather it stayed like this than some people kicked off at the council and we ended up a permit zone for the remaining 330 odd days of the year!!!

There is an article I think in the Worthing Herald about the new stand. They interviewed Barry for that. In which he confirms that the club gained a minority shareholder last year. And that all the investment this brought in will be utilised for the full amount to develop the stadium. So the money side is sorted. Now we only need a start date. I wouldn’t surprised if that date is very close to the play off final date. That will give 3 months to get the ground ready for next season. Regardless what league we will be in.

Wasn't the one time investment to pay for the Elmo terrace. I doubt the payment (on top of what has been spent) for a minority share would stretch to the new stand. That'd be big money no?
Any ideas on the cost from those in the know?!

Any ideas on the cost from those in the know?! Taking from the article in the paper. ”We haven’t finalised the cost of this yet but it’s going to be a significant six-figure sum. Last year we announced we had secured investment into the club with a new minority shareholder, Gilbert Investments. "The investment they made into the club is being used 100 per cent to develop the stadium. That’s what this is for.”

The referred to article is here... Worthing Herald
Its a bit all over the place really because much of what is discussed, indeed all of Keith Mitchell's comments, is clearly talking about the West stand, not the North Stand. That bit refers to the approval of the variance of the original West Stand application (ie we made it smaller). Its confused issues relating to two different stands, one small, one mahoosive! Now, if memory serves from the discussion on the podcast at the time of the Focus Group guy's minority shareholding, his investment was specific to the earlier application (the West stand). Nothing in those discussions with Barry suggested an investment even close to the 'significant six figure sum' required for the North stand. Far be it for me to suggest the standards of local journalism have slipped over the years, but if they've melded and confused the issues of the West and North stand applications, it's not impossible they've done the same with the funding streams for them too. Therefore until such time as I hear straight from the horses mouth, so from Barry himself, no a bit of a jumbled interpretation by a Sussex World reporter, I remain sceptical that last year's new minority shareholder is funding the North stand for us too. The last direct comment from Barry was that it made no sense to spend our money on ground improvements when grants are available on promotion. That logic is still totally valid. The West stand was just a modest exception because of just how unsatisfactory the compromise we had to make to clear NLS eligibility was (ie flattening that end and losing the roof). I'm afraid that article still leaves questions about the funding of the North Stand (and with it the timescale), unanswered.

I think what the article meant to say was that 100% of the investment would go towards funding ground development, not that the investment would fund 100% of ground development.

It cannot be underestimated what huge news this is for the club, exciting times and whatever league we play in next season it's something to look forward to. Well done to all involved getting it approved.
