Catching up with the magnificent Rebel Yell podcast (if you haven't tried it yet, do) there's an update of progress from Angela Tanner from the management committee.
The off pitch works are hoping to be finished in the next couple of weeks but there is no timescale for the pitch.
A ball park date (pun intended) of early November was mooted by the hosts for the first match.
That's later than I understood it might be but with the whole pitch coming up perhaps more realistic than the October date I had in mind.

Casually thrown into a post match interview this evening, Hinsh quoted as saying the pitch work is due to *START* on October 19th and last for four weeks!
If so, assuming everything goes to schedule and we don't have a long wait for the authorities to sign it off, the first home game won't be until Cray Wanderers on the 21st November.
That's a huge game potentially but without having staged a game under current rules we'd have a capacity cap of 150 fans.
Not ideal.

At this rate, 90% of games after Christmas will be at home.

Think the first game back at Woodside will be capped at 300 rising to 600 after that. Hopefully the club can stage an under 18 game or an impromptu friendly as an initial test event.

I'm out of touch/got covid lethargy/lost a few marbles....what is so wrong with the pitch that it needs replacing?

I think there is something wrong with the foundation/base of the pitch resulting in drainage issues. The pitch is quite undulating in places and I believe the club had to call in support from Fifa to get the problem rectified. From what I understand we will be getting a totally new pitch. Looks like a few more away fixtures in the next weeks unless the club arrange to play our home games at an alternative venue in Sussex.

I honestly can't see the league agreeing to reverse more fixtures but we'll see. I think the more likely scenario is an alternitive venue unfortunately.

I'd rather travel to an alternative Sussex venue on October 20th for the Stortford game than battle with midweek M25 traffic getting to their home ground!!

Horsham would be great , plenty of safe free parking 3 minute walk to the ground and a 600 capacity (and its plastic so no weather issues !
