Gonna be controversial here but I thought our management team lost us the game today . Gifted them their first goal with a horrible mistake by the keeper (these things happen ) but when they wobbled after the penalty we did not have the players on the pitch to really hurt them . Had assumed Liam would start and he did well when he came on but to remove Jake ( a striker that is always likely to score a worldly ) and Luque ( who they seemed to be terrified of ) just didn't make sense . They looked a very good team ( without having any standout individuals ) and a draw would have been about right . So frustrating , that imo our "bench " helped them out . 😷😷😷

I'm not sure how having two goalkeepers competing for one shirt is possible at this level. You'd either need a kind of grizzled old stager who would be prepared to sit on the bench knowing they're not going to play much (ever), or an up and coming youngster who would be happy to be on the fringes of the team and in with the chance of starting once in a while (Will Tillman is currently injured sadly). Keeping a second goalie happy would be incredibly difficult - if we had another keeper of a similar standard to Roco, you can be as sure as hell they would not be content with sitting on the bench every game and would look for starting opportunities elsewhere sooner rather than later. How do other teams deal with it in our league? Yeovil had a goalie on the bench today. And I think Maidstone had one as well. I can see what you are saying and agree to a certain degree. But currently that is the only position were you are certain to start every game. And I think having another goalkeeper will push the the current no1

The young keeper shadowing the #1 is clearly the option that ticks the boxes we could achieve given that situation. With Will Tilman injured, the obvious understudy, there is another young keeper. He'd get invaluable experience being around the first team matches. We haven't lost a keeper 'in game' since Lucas at Moneyfields if memory serves. But just because you haven't made a claim for a while is no reason not to have an insurance policy. Virtually every one of our visitors this season has brought a sub keeper. Apparently our default 'nominated man' is Ollie Pearce. Imagine if you will Roco got crocked after Robbo was subbed. Our young trialist would've been the only recognised striker on the pitch. Its a side issue to a side issue on todays game. I reiterate I don't think Roco should be dropped for his mistake today... just covered. But one day it'll come to bite us on the bum.

i certainly didnt think we would win this game after going one down by an error ( which these things happen ) by our keeper ) . we really didnt have any idea where to go from the defence . it was all to slow . we were never going to score from a corner unless we get a pen or a in off shot as they were very solid with a good big keeper . Fortunately we were awarded a pen which the keeper got a hand to but the power took it in . i was desperate that we would walk away with a draw but sadly not . i thought we were a bit clueless today but onwards to the next game if only we could have played like we did a couple of weeks ago against Bath it may have been different .

There was a subtle difference today, the opposition. Previously we've been slow because we got stuck in the loop of continually resorting to going through one route. Against Bath and Crawley under the new smarter and more varied forward progression all routes were being used... long up the middle quickly, long to the wings quickly, through the lines short to a dropping midfielder, running with the ball etc. Today a very well drilled Yeovil just closed off all those routes. I watched how they moved together, it was impressive. There wasn't the high press that was heralded in advance but they pressed our midfielders as a unit instead and it basically closed all the doors. I'm far more relaxed about today's lack of penetration than I was about the slow slow, quick quick, slow that we've seen previously. We won't be up against quality like that very often at all this season.

Honestly, not a lot between the two sides from my perspective, but my main headline, and it's one I've expressed before... You need to get shots off in order to get goals...
Yeovil's first goal was a poor shot that got parried and to state the obvious, if you don't buy a ticket etc etc etc
I would like to see their first again; whilst I'm not sure Roco should have held it, I really thought he should have pushed it wide of the 6 yard box. In reality the rebound couldn't have been kinder for their striker.
To the officials, considering what we've seen this season, I have no complaints... I think it was two evenly matched teams, and we didn't do enough to win. Wipe yourselves down, and go again.

And I think having another goalkeeper will push the the current no1 Yeovil had their 'homegrown' keeper on the bench, their starting keeper was a 33 year old on loan from Newport County. Maidstone had Lucas in goal, and a homegrown academy product on their bench. Though aren't both of those clubs full-time? I agree with you that GK is pretty much the only position where you're guaranteed to start if there's only one of you in the squad, but how would you think an understudy of similar quality could be kept happy? It's one shirt, if you're a midfeilder or defender or forward, there's places up for grabs in theory. If you're a keeper, and know you're second choice, you're kind of screwed. Look at Arsenal at the moment in the actual Premier League.

Wasn't an 'in game' injury though, the situation I raised meaning we'd glove up Ollie.
We've had a few of those 'cover brought in' keeper situations since Moneyfields. Seka at least twice, the then youth keeper whose name I forget (Aaron?) and of course Roco himself was hauled out of BHA's creche when Carl Rushworth got injured.

Thought Yeovil were very well organised and hard to break down so gifting them an early goal wasn't ideal. They kept us at arms length for the majority of the first half with only a Luque effort wide of the target and a cross from Nicky which flashed across the 6 yard box our only real threat. Saying that, they posed little threat after the early goal.
2nd half opened up a bit. We began to move the ball more quickly but still posed very little scoring threat. Rocco atoned for his error with a smart save onto the post to keep us in the game.
Subs made a huge difference in my opinion. Kane moved into midfield, Ollie played down the middle and Nicky moved onto the left and we began to gain a bit of attacking momentum in the last 20 minutes. Ricky not far away from 25 yards before we won the late penalty. Gamesmanship from Yeovil and treatment for Joel delayed the taking of the kick for 5 minutes. Ollie made no mistake from 12 yards though and it looked like we would grab a point.
Ironically though, the added time for the penalty shenanigans afforded Yeovil enough time to grab a winner. Fantastic deivery from the set piece and a firm header to make it 1.2.
We didn't do enough to win the game but to lose points for the 2nd home game in succession in injury time is very disappointing.
Joe Rye was my man of the match. Exceptional performance.
Think anyone finishing above Yeovil will win the division, tactically I was very impressed with them.
On a side note, the segregation is a real pain.

The morning after and I'm feeling a bit more balanced. Okay, I concede we didn't deserve to win and they were better than I gave them credit for... but I still contend that it was within our grasp and some clinical finishing (and more creativity in the final third) we 'could' have won. While lots of comment are about how far we've come, I'm sure Hinsh will be addressing this in training quick smart.
They won because of their shape and planning. Could our full time plan be expedited? And dare I say, new big man at the back?

Could our full time plan be expedited? And dare I say, new big man at the back? We'll stick to the agreed timescale I'm sure, as much as it'd help a full time transition has to be managed. Not only financially but logistically it's a big step. We've been light in defensive numbers all season, even before Aarrans injury. A central defensive signing would come as no surprise at all. But he can't just be 'a big man'. He has to be a quick, smart ball playing/carrying creative too, that's what's required for how the defensive unit contributes to our attacking game. We can't just sign a 'unit' for balls into the box and carry a liability the rest of the time. The situation will get worse soon too because I'm more convinced than ever that Joe Rye will be gone in January to a league team. You can't be that calm and composed on the ball, that incisive and clinical in the tackle and that positionally aware without the ball and not be on the radar of a whole host of clubs. He can do so much better than them but it crossed my mind on Tuesday that his excellent performance against Crawley would've surely convinced them to enquire.

Yeovil's equivalent of a Pitchside video - www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcwbhWchYSY&pp=ygULd29ydGhpbmcgZmM%3DIf there was a fault from Roco for the first goal, it was positioning, because he was at full stretch when he pushed the shot out. As for the handball for the free-kick from which they scored the winner, to me it looks like it hits Ollie on the backside. I didn't realise at the time that it was our former hero Jordan Maguire-Drew who took the kick; typical! For me, who has been watching Worthing for 50 years (I might have mentioned it before...), the most significant part of the day was the reaction of their players and supporters at the end of the match (Adam referenced it in his post match), this from a club that was in the Championship less than 10 years ago. When I first saw us play Yeovil (in the 80s) we were fortunate to get away with only conceding 5 each time (apart from the freak victory in the 90s), so I am amazed that I'm now disappointed with losing by a 98th minute goal yesterday. We really have come a long way in the last few years.

A fair result in the end, their keeper didn't have much to do. We need to get more shots on target, force a save, we may get a rebound or deflection. Things improved when Vincent came on, Smith didn't offer much, maybe bring Jess on to spread the play more. I don't know why a small section of the crowd in the stands were booing as Yeovil players went down the tunnel. This shouldn't happem when they have contributed to a good game of footie!
