Moving on...

Saturday was a huge game even before last night's defeat and the consequent need to get back on the horse. They're the third team in a row we've played in great form. You can't pick when you play teams, the fixture computer does that, but Welling and Braintree a couple of months ago would've been a much different proposition.
A repeat of the play-off QF last season we (clearly) played them three times in22/23. We lost away (1-2) in October, won at home (2-1) in the regular season and won the QF by the same score.
This season the away fixture was one of several 'cave ins'. Especially so the morning after the night before, i'll spare us all the pain of watching 'The Bad' and 'The Ugly' again and just serve up 'The Good'...
NLS Play-Off QF - WFC v Braintree highlights (03/05/23) - Link
This season they've been very up and down. Seemingly bruised by that play-off elimination they started of as a lower half-middling side then hit a bit of form. They hit a season's high of 6th by games 19 and 20 only to drop back down to 13th by game 27.

Annoyingly however we've hit them on the up again and they visit us in 7th place. They could rise as high as 4th with a win in this game and with two games in hand on us they'd then have the potential to draw level on 62 points. They'll be well up for this on the form they're in.

Speaking of form, after last night's results they have knocked us off our perch as the top team in the division. With 16 points from the last 18 available home and away we're down to third with 13/18... and if you fancy a giggle, looks whose at the bottom of the overall form table! Its fair to say they haven't exactly played many top sides recently, their five game winning streak has come against Truro, Dover, Chippenham, Torquay and Tonbridge. But even so, a team used to winning is always a big threat.
Our home form has been improving slightly recently, we're up to 5th with 13/18 at Woodside. They are 11th for away form with 8/18 on the road. That includes (going backwards) the aforementioned wins at Chippenham (0-1) and Truro (1-2), a creditable 1-1 draw at Maidstone, defeats at Chelmsford (0-3), Farnborough (0-1) and furthest back a 1-1 draw at Hampton & Richmond.
NLS Form (last 6 H&A) - Link
Last night's confidence was misplaced, you're only as good as your last result. We are up against a form team so we must bring our A game. They may only be in 7th but their games in hand make them as much of a threat as Chelmsford are to our coveted 2nd place finish... see also Bath City by the way, similarly endowed with a pair of games in hand they too can draw level with our 62 now. This is the first of three massive games for us in the coming month... the 90 minutes against Braintree, Chelmsford (away) and Bath could well decide our fate. We have the opportunity to wound our nearest rivals in these games and we must take them.
To that end its so disappointing that on field discipline in a game we won comfortably cost us so dear. Roobs sits this out (plus Dartford AND Chelmsford) and Joel will join him in the stands on Saturday. One presumes Joe Rye will deputise for Joel with Alfie (he was present last night even though he did not feature) but if he doesn't who knows who'll play central in defence. Tommy Willard was out last night with a hamstring issue which probably rules him out for Saturday too.
All Saturday fixtures...
Chelmsford City v Yeovil Town
Chippenham Town v Dover Athletic
Dartford v Taunton Town
Hampton & Richmond Borough v Farnborough
Havant & Waterlooville v Bath City
St Albans City v Welling United
Tonbridge Angels v Slough Town
Torquay United v Aveley
Truro City v Hemel Hempstead Town
Weston-super-Mare v Eastbourne Borough
Worthing v Braintree Town
Yep, just one defeat and the red is back. Huge game that at the top. For me we have to forget about Yeovil, a win for them does more damage to a much nearer competitor. With their game in hand coming midweek next week Chelmsford may pass us anyway if we balls up against Braintree.
Crowd wise we should continue to be busting the break even figure. We won't surpass the 2,678 for the Play-Off game last season but should easily surpass the 1,335 that came to watch the regular season game with The Iron.
Come on you Rebels!
