Age? Modern/progressive enough? One of the criteria must surely be style of play and willingness to integrate new ideas. We don't need a Hinsh clone per se, but the entire squad has been schooled a certain way, especially those who've come through our system. Any reinvention to old school football would surely be a disaster as some/most of our lads have never played it. If the club wants to continue in the full time role of the manager being academy manager, they you probably are best suited to someone with managerial experience and leading a side along with the ability to educate those coming through the ranks, this is why personally I feel its best suited to someone from that background and is local.

Chris Agutter mentioned already but he'd be my favourite but as also said not thinking past this season. We know the men, we know the mission, now it's time to get them over the line. Come on you Rebels.

Sadly I can't think of anyone from the South East non league scene who has the background in youth development and management to be right for us. I would look to a coach at BHA or Southampton to come in. The rest of our existing team could help with the non league contacts

Forgive me Findonrebel but on reflection I've tweaked the thread title slightly.
'In the running' kinda implies there's some substance in the names mentioned. In truth its about just having a bit of fun throwing names about.
I rather think the club's postbag/inbox will be inundated with candidates from near and far. There's a more than decent chance whoever it turns out to be... should the interim team not get it... will be someone we never even considered 😉

If the candidate is ambitious enough the job would pay well enough to consider relocating. When does the documentary come out? If its pre any interview selection process and we come over well, as I'm sure we will, that could bring a wave of even wider interest... progressive continental candidates even 😳 Sounds ridiculous, I mean, we need someone with experience of local non league football right? Well no, we don't really. We play in a large geographical regional league already and we're pushing for a national league. They needn't necessarily be local at all.

Tony Russell, Lewes manager, plays good possession based football, apparently not under contract either.
Jamie Howell and Darin Kilpartick, 2 very good coaches with lots of academy experience.
Bound to be quite a few ambitious managers and coaches interested in coming to Woodside if and when the opportunity arises.
Aarran, Buddy and Dean are excellent interim appointments, hopefully lead us at least one home playoff tie and with some favourable luck and good performances possibly get us up to the next step up the football pyramid.
An exciting end to the season awaits.

Jamie Howell would be an excellent candidate. Will know a lot of the current squad well especially Ollie which could be crucial. Knows a lot of the local young players and a fair few in the academy would have passed through Allstars along the way to Worthing. Happy to promote youth into the first team, has tons of managerial experience and looks to play attractive football.

Not a fan of the Tony Russell suggestion. Lewes training inside the M25, some poor recruitment and Joe Vines' social media exploits are not really Worthing. They went from Cray to Lewes, brought all the players and their only achievement in this invite only European cup.
Happy to be patient on this one because I suspect (and hope) something outside the box! Next generation Worthing!

The rest of our existing team could help with the non league contacts Youth development - Aarran ran our academy/youth set-up for a few years; Dean has been working with the U18s this season, and he is an unbelievably good coach; Buddy used to play in pre-season friendlies alongside youth team players, and the way he guided them through the games was superb to behold. Management - yes, that's a minus for the three we've given the reins to, but all managers have to start somewhere. Two ex-pros and a Sussex non-league legend fit the bill for me. Contacts - I'd imagine all 3 have got plenty of contacts. Someone said elsewhere that they love how our club operates, and I couldn't agree more on this front with regard to how the board have handled this - Hinsh leaving was always going to happen, perhaps these guys have been pressed into service sooner than is ideal, but in terms of continuity, and potential, they have played a blinder getting these three fellas in IMHO.

Didn't really work out for him at Eastbourne Borough, so would probably need Dabba alongside him once more to replicate the success they achieved at Bognor.

Apropos no-one particular that's been mentioned to date but I hope the process covers character as much as it will ability.
Argyle have (and its officially titled as such 😆) a 'no knobhead' policy when it comes to player/staff recruitment. They check social media and 'ask around'.
Its no good having great ability if your demeanour/behaviour weakens the togetherness of the group or the image of the club.

Excellent article and well worth the read if you've got a spare 5 minutes! Not someone I know much about, but lots of interesting reflections.
