Joe Rye off to Pompey I believe ( don't shoot the messenger) 😷😷😷 If that is true I am not surprised. But could they loan him back to us for a season? Give him more experience.

Last year's Goals Against figure was pretty horrendous, but would anyone sane have suggested that Harrison, Joel, Aarran and Joe shouldn't have been first choice players??
If Joe Rye is off to Pompey, then fair play to him - the standard of their academy is not the best, I imagine he's already better than most of what they have currently got.

Oh Joe, how could you? ☹
Good luck in your future career wherever you end up but just take their coin for now and use them as a stepping stone 👍🏻

If Joe goes to pompey they could atleast give us Liam Vincent back in exchange? That would be nice. But what I have been struggling with is the following. Yes Vincent is a decent player. But seen as he is full time professional with Portsmouth I don’t think he was head and shoulders above any of our players. Or even better then some of our opposition. That makes me wonder is the gap then not as big as I expected? Or is it the player? Not knocking the player here. Just would like to know what others think. Is the gap between non league and league football big or not?

I'd give him benefit of the doubt. He was at H&RBFC before coming to us which is a very different culture, then he got injured, then he changed to a more defensive position. He's highly thought of at Pompey and we saw him finish the year strongly as he settled in.

The ying to the yang of that argument is Jasper. Clearly one of our best players he's just not getting game time in L1.
On LV I think we were only really seeing the best of him for us in the very last couple of weeks of the season. I don't know if it was the adjustment to our system or maybe the injury he picked up early doors but he wasn't nearly the same player we saw score a hatrick for Hampton... until the end.
I'd welcome him back, I think he was getting there.
Edit: on the same wavelength there Bally, just pipped me to it 😆

Don’t get me wrong I will have him back. If they are willing to do so. Maybe I was just expecting more. Or is it the case that the rest of our players set a high standard? Like I said just curious of other peoples opinions

If we look at the data from last season we were in the bottom 5 for goals conceded, and lost 34 pts from a winning position. Seems clear where we need to strengthen to push on and secure promotion. Who’s out there that could make a difference?? Tough challenge. Come on Pete, we defend 1v1, we will score lots of goals, we will concede lots of goals. It's the way we play, that won't change. Look at Brighton and our gaffer looks at Brighton. I could argue a case for better strikers than better defenders!

I’d take 20 less goals scored and 40 less conceded all day long. 34 pts conceded from a winning position is poor surely. Reduce that by half and we’re close to winning the title.

Must admit that I'm not sure what the benefit of doing mornings over evenings is unless you're gonna go full time. Anyone with a 9-5 is gonna find that difficult to impossible so why bother? Not sure if it works. Look at Havant. They train in the mornings and it didn’t really help them. In my view if the club wants to train in the mornings then they should go full time. Otherwise I can’t see any benefits. Havant isn’t a unique situation in NLS, vast amounts of money ploughed in so huge expectation. Clearly something went wrong last season, was it the Doswell effect? He certainly polarises opinion, but I’d imagine they, like us will be very much in the mix, as will Eastbourne Borough, with their huge cash injection.
