4 errors sealed out fate tonight despite some good football. Yes Roco was at fault again... But... seemed like we loaded the box more which is positive. We became unsettled as a team in the second half for about 20 minutes, but didn't play badly as a team (except for the individual errors). 3 very good goals for different reasons!
As for Luer surely it's time up. Even Shola Ayola scored twice for us. Luer hasn't even hit the target that much since joining in August! At least Hinsh has got over keeping Ollie on the bench... Next is 'project Isthmian' for Luer!

I'd be happy to see a bit more of what he can offer there. Yes he didn't score but when he's played with Ollie before he's always, inexplicably, been given the central role and Ollie has been shoehorned in somewhere else. Tonight the right horses were given the right courses... you always play Ollie centrally. My MOTM was between those two and Joe Felix, Ollie just shaded it.

Some errors? That is a bit of an understatement. All 3 goals due to mistakes by Rees. I am sorry but we do need another goalie. He is just not good enough! He has the quality he has made some great saves this season but ultimately his overall play is a cause for concern. I hold my hands up. I wasn’t thrilled when we signed him this season. I never really rated Rees as a goalie. And my opinion hasn’t changed. Hate to say it but if he stays in goal he will cost us more games.

I echo this, I think tonight was his best showing in a Worthing shirt and he showed some good bursts of pace down the flank and worked hard today! I think of he's going to score goals then yes, maybe a 2 month loan spell in the Isthmian may help him! I thought Bailey Smith did well along with Luer when coming on! I like Bailey as an impact player!

To the game as a whole though.
Why is that I walked home (happier isn't quite the right word) more entertained and more encouraged by that performance than I did the plodding 'meh' that was last week's 3-0 win against Havant?
Doesn't make sense... and yet!
You can't gift four goals to the opposition and expect to get anything from the game... but the fight and the creativity up top was miles better than recently.
So there were some colossal negatives but we shouldn't let that obscure some strong positives.
When the first bollock was dropped I commented that we've been long overdue one of those this season and just shrugged it off. It was like waiting for a bus, by the time the fourth bollock was dropped we just have to hope that's our quota for the season in one truly bizarre game.
Darts didn't do anything extra special to win those goals, there was no supersonic press, no overload, nothing other teams don't do. It was just one of those nights. We could've scored 10... we'd have given away 11.
And lets not kid ourselves, nothing is going to change. I could give you Hinsh's post match interview response now "that's on me, that's how I want them to play"... followed by all the positives mentioned already.
One really bizarre game of football, but like I say, I can't explain it let alone justify it, for me that was a thoroughly entertaining guilty pleasure 😬

Oh god yeah, he did nothing Meeky couldn't have done there.

I echo many of the thoughts here tonight. We were playing against ourselves for the whole 90 mins. We spent the entire evening having to outscore our own errors at the back and that's always going to pose a challenge. We can lump onto Roco as much as we'd like but realistically he's here for the season and we need to find a way to give him a boost and push him on for the remainder of the campaign. On the flip side going forward we looked loads better, especially after Luque came on, so much more promising than the past few weeks. Ricky's goal was superb along with Ollie and Cashman looking bright throughout, let's hopefully get past Frome and look forward to getting back on track in the league in a weeks time!

From about the 10th minute to their equalizer on the half hour I thought we played some of the best football we’ve played all season. Some great link up play and several chances created. We were running amok and a second goal I believe would have killed them off and led to a possible thumping win. But oh no, we have to play the Hinsh way insisting on playing harri karri in and around our own box when we’re being pressed. If it hadn’t been Rocco messing up it would have been someone else, the way we refuse to play the percentage game in our own half. Great and lovely to watch if you have the players and keeper to do it but we will always give teams hope and more and more opposing managers are switched onto it and it ends up costing us. I would go as far as saying that Hinsh is as equally to blame for those four goals conceded as Rocco. We need to be far more clinical and difficult to play against especially when we are leading. A real shame that out soft underbelly reappeared when we looked so good going forward. I’m convinced we’ll end up making the play offs. We’ve got too strong a squad not to. Eventually I think Hinsh will find the right formula but at the moment he is still no closer to knowing his strongest starting line up and I get the impression he’s spinning too many plates and trying to keep everyone happy. Not an easy job but if he is to prove himself at this and possibly higher levels he needs to establish his strongest starting eleven and stick with it where possible.

Surprised no-one's mentioned Luque's disallowed goal...certainly one to analyse on the highlights! In real-time it didn't look like it touched anyone, so can only assume a Worthing player was offside in the keeper's line-of-sight as the ball came through the crowd of players.

Of the 4 goals conceded I was most annoyed with their 2nd. Firm shot struck straight at the keeper, failed to hold it, failed to push it out for a corner and instead Dartford were able to keep the ball alive for a simple finish.
1st and 3rd goals can happen with the way we play out from the back, sadly the 3rd goal totally knocked any remaining confidence out of Rocco.
We protected him well for most of the 2nd half, although there was another let off as he was nearly closed down in possession before an awful, shanked clearance gifted them a 4th.
With no back up keeper seemingly available it would appear that Rocco will have to play himself back into some sort of form.
Attacking wise, we were very good tonight but our achilles heel last season was defensively and it has shown little improvement this season. Tonight was the 4th time we have conceded 4 goals in a game.
Luque and Bailey both made a massive difference from the bench although I would have liked to see Jesse introduced aswell.
Plenty of positives but also plenty to work on and with the rain continuing throughout the week we may well get another free Saturday to organise an extra training session.

We are a Hari-Kari mid table side at the moment. My other team Aldershot play a similar way now to Worthing except they are so much quicker in they passing and forward movement and never play out centrally from the goalkeeper, generally they build there attacks from the full backs. I’d like to see Joe Rye kick on from being a calm defender to trying to make more from the possession he gets with a more all round game and making passes forward into dangerous positions, he seems just to play well within his capabilities instead of trying to stretch his ability. Fine defender though who has a fine future and credit to the coaches for that.

Only tonic for me is Eastbourne got another big hiding!! Maybe they should ditch the social media antics and focus on the football? Just an idea!

As has been noted in some posts it's all very well blaming Rocco for the goals, although I forgive him for the shot saved and subsequently scored as he had done well to get to the initial shot, should have held it? Or palmed it for a corner? The last goal can't be excused in view of the previous happenings. Perhaps the the players in front of him are as much to blame as is Adam if presumably he insists that he play that way rather than instil in him that if he sees a danger then just boot it up the pitch.[ plan B] That all being said, it was an entertaining game and we scored some 'proper goals'. Despite the loss and the misgivings we played some good football against a dogged team and it was more entertaining than the win against Havant.
