Perspective needed. Keeper has a poor game and we lose. It happens. The strikers, on the other hand have been poor all season and probably only have a handful of goals between them. Some haven't scored at all!

What a weird night. Entertaining football despite the result. Not convinced about that disallowed goal. Enough has been said about Rocco. He has enough credit with us for an off night. Was a bit worried when Nicky Wheeler went down. He didn’t seem to get back to full pace after that. Joe Felix superb again. I just wanted to give a bit of recognition to Joel Colbran for his continued captaincy in the absence of Arran. Big shoes to fill and he has done it well.

I thought that was one of our best performances of the season. Luer had his best game for us, Cashman is now in the groove and Ollie is making Hinsh look a bit daft for leaving him out so frequently thus far this season - a perfect and mature response from a Worthing great. 3-1 to us would have been a fair scoreline and if we had xG stats, they would have been absolutely loaded in our favour.
Sadly, the life of a goalkeeper means that you don't get to have a stinker and be quietly subbed and if you give the ball away (unlike an outfield player where you usually get away with it) it usually leads to a goal. There is nothing more to be said there. We win and lose as a team and Hinsh will continue to be consistent in terms of his philosophy that has served us so well over the years and his determination to improve the team in all positions.
Weirdly looking forward to Frome, an abstract destination and a free hit of a game.
Onwards!

Out of pure interest (because I'm by no means implying dropping Roco, Ian summed it up perfectly above)... but does anyone know who the other keeper was during the warm-up last night?
Roco was out with John Keeley doing his usual routines but I happened to notice another gloved-up keeper taking a few shots and crosses too. Could be wrong because it was the wrong end to us but he looked too old and 'bulky' to be Will Tillman.

I'm not on the Rocco out train but we di need cover in the GK area.

I'm still disappointed H only went to Dorking, I thought he would go on to better things ( no offence to Dorking ) than bottom 3rd of NL.
The things is we have to have a goalie who fits into the style we play! How many of them are available at our level? Let's be honest that even most league 1/2 sides won't have an academy keeper who is comfortable playing our style. So that in itself is a big challenge, some great keepers at our level ( Worner at Havant for example ) but can they build play and fit in? Not so sure...

He declined his two opportunities to shoot. I think yesterday was a perfect example of why Hinsh isn't daft at all. Ollie, like all of our strikers struggled playing as a 9 and didn't look like scoring until he moved back behind Luer. Thing is, when he plays as a 10 it is difficult to fit Cashman in. Would be interesting to know how many goals our strikers have scored when playing as the 9? Not many I suspect.

It wasn’t Will Tillman as he is still out injured

Would be interesting to know how many goals our strikers have scored when playing as the 9? Not many I suspect. And I think you've nailed the Luer 'problem' right there. The way we usually play is that the 9 isn't really the goal threat (Jake with 6 goals is but we have to play slightly differently with him up top), more a target that enables the likes of Ollie (7 goals), Ricky (7 goals) and Danny (5 goals) to make runs into dangerous positions from slightly deeper positions. And if that is the case, then should we even be obsessing over Luer's lack of goals? Caveat - you can write what I know about football tactics on the back of a postage stamp. With a marker pen.

I'm not on the Rocco out train but we di need cover in the GK area. I said it before but in every position on the pitch we have at least 2 players that can play there. Unfortunately the gk is one we don’t. And I don’t want to do an Arsenal with goalies. But if we want to be serious about going up and have cup runs we need competition in that area. And I am not jumping on the bandwagon with regards to Rees. I always felt the same about him. But let’s move on to Saturday.

On a positive note, the players can't be accused of being afraid to have a shot last night, they weren't trying to walk it in (apart from the 3rd goal...what was Ollie thinking!).

A wonderfully entertaining evening. When I got back from the game I could vividly recall all three of our goals, each a gem, and all totally different, a good passing move finished off perfectly, a 20 yard+ screamer, and a mazy dribble. I had not memory of any of the details of the four Dartford goals, illustrating that my psychological defences were slightly more effective than Worthing's defence made flesh.

Shame about the end result, but overall an entertaining match. Not too bad for my first visit to Woodside.

Great thread this one. Lots of positive reflections despite the obvious frailties and some diversity of perspectives to keep us all balanced - all healthy and appreciated in a growing club.
